This is such a touchy subject. Thanks for having the courage to post this! I think it's a phenomenon that goes way beyond the technology industry. I think the objective leader knows that a healthy balance of diversity is incredibly helpful. So the objective thinker can think outside the usual boxes, like programmers look like this: ____, designers look like this: ____, aggressiveness is normal and even essential. And maybe we have the tendency to end up with these expectations because of certain realities about aptitudes. So the objective leader can accept the clusters, and remember that bell curves overlap, and that a wide variety of people have sky-high aptitudes no matter what the average for their demographic might be.

Great way of putting it. Totally agree that it's not only a problem within one industry. The ratio men to women just feels higher in tech.
