Don't Become a Wage Slave to Loans When You Can Obtain an Ivy League Education for Free
I solemnly swear this is not click bait!
The crazy thing is that this began all the way back in 2012 and I just recently heard about it a couple of weeks ago! Now one clarification. You absolutely can get a Free education from schools such as Harvard, MIT, Berkley, and many more, but if you want a degree that you will have to pay for.
With that of the way let me introduce you to edX.org.
edX is a non-profit and open source platform that hosts courses from over 120 universities and institutions. They were founded by a partnership between Harvard University and MIT and have a single goal of providing educational materials to the world. While some courses do have a cost the majority of the ones I have looked through are completely free unless you would like to pay for a verified certificate of completion. The idea here though is that if you want to learn and better yourself then you can do so at no charge. Many courses are self-paced as the lectures are prerecorded meaning that you can participate in them regardless of your schedule. Also, the courses provide the book material needed digitally and only would require payment if you wished to purchase the physical book.
So is this for everyone?
The simple answer is no. The truth is that some people are not self-motivated and will not apply themselves without the threat of social pressure or loan repayment looming over their head. That said however when you have nothing to lose for trying it out then why not. Worst case scenario you stop participating in the coursework and you don't gain everything you could from it. Best case scenario you learn the information that you're interested in and figure out how to use that education to further yourself on your own merit.
(Disclaimer: I have no affiliation with edX and have never been in contact with them.)
