10 rivers would suffice

in #life7 years ago

Dear friends, dear friends,

We have all seen these terrible pictures. From the bowels to the bowels filled with bottles and plastic bags. Real islands of filth extending for miles. Turtles strangled and drowned.

It is a global crisis: unless we act now, there will be more plastic than fish in the sea in 2050!

But a groundbreaking study has shown that 90% of the plastic that flows into our oceans comes from just 10 rivers in Africa and Asia. If we clean them, we could literally save our oceans!unnamed (1).png

Instead of waiting for someone to do it for us, experts and Avaaz members have come up with an action plan. If 50,000 of us make a small donation today, we will be able to:

  • Send scientists specialized in plastic pollution in the cities adjoining these rivers to set up cleaning plans;

  • Launch large public campaigns around polluted rivers;

  • And carry out advocacy actions with donor countries to finance the 10 rivers plan.

UN experts believe that our movement is ideal for putting this plan into practice. Contribute to your means - prevent this plastic epidemic from killing our planet:

Our plastic addiction is a shame. We use 1.4 BILLION plastic bottles each day. Yes, every day! Only a small fraction is recycled, and once arrived in the wild, it takes them up to 1000 years to decompose!

These 10 rivers are found for example in Cambodia, Laos or India, and these countries are asking for help. According to the experts, the actors at the heart of this plastic crisis lack know-how, political will and resources. Avaaz has members absolutely everywhere. We have a unique track record of mass campaigning, and we know the best plastic specialists ready to go to work. We can do it!

Plastic pollution stifles the life of our oceans. But if we raise enough money today, we could become the international movement that resuscitates our oceans. Contribute now:

It's easy to feel overwhelmed by the plastic tsunami we use. But today, we know where most of this waste comes from, and we know there is a solution. If we do not act now, he is not sure if anyone else does it. Let's be the movement that our planet needs.

With hope and determination,

Bert, Alice, Allison, Nataliya, Bakabou, Marigona, Camille, Martyna, Ricken and the whole Avaaz team
