Glass half - full or half empty.

in #life8 years ago

We sometimes feel down and then we feel as if the glass is half empty, other times we feel better and the glass is half full. What I am trying to say are we not missing the point.

The point is the glass is refillable. Why don’t we just except that whatever comes our way is the way it was planned when we were born.

I really believe that we do our best, but we cannot avoid certain things happening in our life.

Many years ago my husband was just a teacher, he was very good at his job and he really worked hard. He got promoted to a Senior Teacher very quickly. Then for some reason he got stuck there. No matter how hard he tried no promotion was forthcoming.

We lived next to his parents who built a house on an open stand next to our house. He was also an only child just like me, so loved it as we were best friends before we got married.
His father went on pension and they started traveling, which they enjoyed because for the first time they were free to come and go as they wanted.
Not long after he went on pension they went to a resort for a holiday. My mother in law phoned us and said he was sick, she could not drive so we jumped in the car and went to fetch them.

He looked terrible. When we got home the first thing he did was go to the doctor and was told that he had liver cancer and very little time left. We took him to the hospital for treatment but it was just too late.

They moved in with us and we looked after him. Within 3 months he was gone. I still remember how difficult it was as my kids were small and did not understand what was happening.
Within 4 days of him passing my husband got promoted and we had to move to another town.

Now we knew why he had to be there, that is why I say we have our life planned out from birth without realising the reason.
He had to be there for his mother and he had to be able to help with his father. I still believe that was the reason that we were waiting so long for a promotion.
We moved, and took my mother in law with us. She stayed for a year and then we got her a little house at a retirement home. Just a note that was her choice, as she wanted to move back to the town she had lived in for nearly 60 years.
She was happy being between her old friends again and they always say after you lose your partner take a year to decide what you want to do as it takes a while to work through all the problems.
Now back to my glass of half full and half empty. Within 2 years he became headmaster of a very big school and we were on track with what he had planned.
He always said he wanted to reach this position before he was 37 years old.
Now was our glass half full or half empty no it was refilled.
Just remember we don’t always know the reason for things happening but as I said I think our lives are planned for us as of birth.

So just remember there is always the possibility of refilling the glass. Just trust that what was planned for you, will work out perfectly.

Thank you I truly apreciate will defenitely go and look .

Its really good

Love it! Great point, I'm also of the opinion that you are the one who is in control of your emotions and outlook, yea you can say but look at what they are saying...but it only matters if you make it matter...remember that friend that tripped in front of you, not really but I bet they still think about it. Don't be your own anchor 😎

Thank you for sure we all have the big anchor, he decides and we must respect. Sometimes we ask but only receive much later, why because it was his plan from the start.

Time to refill the glass! Everytime I get done writing, the glass feels empty... Like Norman Mailer said- Writing is the closest a man can come to experiencing childbirth! Great post!!!

Thank you Rich appreciate.

You are most welcome!

Great story! We have to make the best of the hand we have been dealt. We cannot control many aspects of our lives, but we can choose how we handle the situations that life throws at us.

I agree with you 100% thank you for your comment.

Sometimes we can switch that half empty glass for a smaller one, and it will be full. Humans tend to pump up their expectations, their wishes can in many cases be unreachable, so if the glass is half empty, change the vessel.

You have made an excellent point thank you.

@frieda
..... my daughters became part of the wonderful headmaster he was. He meant such a lot to us as a family, his door was always open for everybody, whether it was at school or at home, he took care of all.

Thank you that is such a nice thing to say we appreciate it a lot. Thank you

Great piece and perspective! We can focus on the state of the glass or hold on to the truth that it's refillable. I enjoy your writing style, it took me back to your memories with you!
