Food photography is becoming my new hobby... what?!

in #life7 years ago

If you have read some of my previous posts, you know that traveling is one of my biggest passions. However, recently I got a camera from my boyfriend for my birthday and I was stoked!! I love taking pictures, but to be honest I've always been pretty crappy (my phones' cameras don't help either)... so this was perfect for me to work on my photography skills and work on my creative side.

About 2 weeks ago, I went to Brussels and Lille for a long weekend away ( I will make a post about it later on) and together with my 'very French' breakfast, aka baguette, I got this cheesecake for later in the day. When I decided to eat it later in the day, I realized I didn't have a spoon anymore so I had to eat it in a very messy way. Halfway through, I thought that the half-eaten cheesecake looked even better when I could see all the inside layers and textures, so I decided to take a picture.

It wasn't a picture just to post on Instagram basically say 'hey, look at my food' but I just wanted to capture the beauty of that messy dessert (yeah, sounds weird, but I promise that I am normal lol). So I tried to zoomed in and changed the position a bit and this was the result:

I know it is nothing professional or super amazing, but for some reason, I was very fond of that picture.

Then on Christmas eve, it was just my sister, my boyfriend and I and as we all had just arrived from vacations, we had to make an easy/ simple dinner and we decided to get some of those frozen/ready desserts from Lidl.

When I put it on my plate, again, there was something about that messy aspect that made me want to take pictures of it. So basically I ended up having a banoffee pie photoshoot during Christmas evening and I wanted to share it with you guys:

In the end, those simple pictures made me happy and I thought maybe this is really something that I should put more time and effort on (learning about photography). Lately, I have just taken pictures of food that I made myself, trying to get the full beauty and essence of the food (sounds like bs, but it is true) in a photograph. So you might see more of these in the future, alongside with travel pics (and stories of course!).

I guess I just made this specific post because I didn't want to just share these on Instagram, but I wanted to explain how important these were for me and how I acidentaly started enjoying taking pictures of food, because I am a beginner at this but I already have a lot of passion and determination to become better at this.

Do you guys have a fun(ny) hobby or something you really want to learn? What is your favourite dessert? Is there anything you would like me to write about? Let me know in the comments!!
