My experience visiting a Cabaret in 2017

in #life7 years ago

So this happened when I was back in Brighton, earlier in the summer but I thought I'd write a separate post to talk about it (if you wanna know more about Brighton, please check my previous posts :). Let me start by saying that what I mean by 'cabaret' is a burlesque show in a very nice place ('cause I don't know what everyone associates with the word 'cabaret') so nothing weird, but definitely out of the ordinary!

It was actually a surprised my boyfriend planned because he was being my 'private tour guide' of the city, so he was looking for activities for us to try. All I know is that once he texted me asking if I liked the movie 'Moulin Rouge' and the next we were going around Brighton looking for costumes for this show.

I was not so sure what to expect about this, but it was really exciting as I never thought I'd be going to a show like that! We arrived at the place (a bit late 'cause I'm Brazilian and we are not punctual) and we when we walked in I was speechless. The entire place was dark with the low reddish/pink lights and a lot of tables with people dressed in 20s style ... it looked just like in a movie! We sat at our table, just on the second row from the stage and soon the burlesque-dressed waitress started bringing our drinks and food (we also had a dinner during the show, which was delicious).

Then our host for the nice, a very nice 'lady' with a very dirty mouth and gigantic boobs started the show. She sang a couple of songs during our dinner and in between 'acts'. We had a few burlesque dancers performing, one even had fire torches and an outfit the lighted up when the lights went off. Just amazing! There was also one performer who was a guy (I think he was a guest performer) and while his time was stage was less burlesque and more cheesy strip-tease, it was still funny. The thing about burlesque is that a lot of the times they pair up sensuality with comedy/sarcasm, so the show was very entertaining, not only because of the setting, food, and dancers but because it was super funny. I laughed really hard like I had not laughed in a long time.

After the show, we had a party there so they just moved all the tables and we had a dancefloor. It was a very fun night that I know I will remember for a very long time. These types of experience make me think that sometimes we end up missing out on some great moments because we are too lazy to step out of our comfort zones and do something different, instead of the same things we always do.

Have you ever been to a show like that? If so, where did you go? Let me know about your experiences when on vacation! Do you try new things or stick with the comfortable?
