Where our dreams stem

in #life8 years ago

I was wondering today about the origins of our dreams, and despite the various theories that has crossed my path, I am yet to be entertained by one that I deem conclusive.

In the psychological field it is stated that one is only able to recognise in others what you have acknowledged within your self, does the same principle then apply within the mind, can our subconscious then only fathom depictions retrieved from our own experience and exposure? Does our minds then create these composite illusions with shattered remnants of forgotten memories? And are these depictions created as a form of our own higher self trying to somehow focus our attention on that which we are aware of yet have not associated with?

What are your views on where dreams stem from?

Sometimes I think dreams are just the result of our subconscious processing information from the day... Other times I get the feeling that there's a LOT more to it than that because occasionally I wake up with the sense that I've been somewhere else (really, not just 'in my own mind'). Who knows, but it's something I too have given much time pondering over!

I hear you, I have woken up feeling exactly like that too

Different types of dreams

I understand that, the question is where the originate...

Dreams are our non lived moments.

That is an interesting way to look at things

ever read CS Lewis - The Great Divorce? they may be the more real moments...

No i haven't read him.

you might enjoy ;-)

I have often wondered where we go when we sleep also; I have always been curious about time travel also. My personal perspective is that we actually have the ability to set our spirits to commune with our Creator in our waking and even moreso in our sleeping. I believe that dreams can be significant and not so much. The art form is to know the difference and seek our heavenly Father for wisdom through it all. Of course the measuring stick for any believer is how it lines up with the Word. Blessings~

I think in our dreams, our thoughts may turn into images that we confront physically. But there's also something more than that, almost like the subconscious is sending us poems about our life.
