I think that principle is true mostly but what about STEEM for example? Here there is very little right to privacy, everyone's account is open and we can see all activity on the blockchain, yet we still have a great deal of freedom as users.

Yes.....it is true that here at Steemit....it is open to public view.....which is why so many do not think they are free to use their proper names and instead use a nickname.

@frystikken recently posted about the matter of security and privacy at least as it relates to one's Steem accumulation and brought up some very valid points.

True, you are right about the nicknames. I guess a mixture of privacy and openness is ideal.
