Is higher education really worth it ?

Hello steemians/steemers!(https://steemit.com/steemit/@freedomexists/steemians-or-steemers big discussion over there)

I wanted to provide an insight for all of you out there about the necessity (or so we are led to believe) of going to college/university in the 21st century. We keep getting bombarded with the same old sentence: "Go to school, learn and get a high-paying job".

But my question is this: "Do we really need a higher form of education?"
The answer might seem a straight yes or no, but it certainly is not from my point of view.

At the moment I am studying for a Bachelor's Degree in computer engineering at the most respected university in my country. A freshman, as it is my first year here, but the above-mentioned question popped up in my head. Do I really need this degree ? I mean the final purpose is to make money off of your degree, but can we not make money using other methods. Not the illegal stuff, let us stay inside the legal boundaries (Don't go full out Wolf of Wall-Street style).

Since cryptocurrencies are so mainstream right now let's use them as an example. If you would have channeled your inner Warren Buffet a few years ago and would have invested in bitcoin or something else, you would have been a billionaire (maybe). But as we common folk do not have this built-in system of predicting events or thinking for the future, we started investing only now (my case as an example), and to be fair, it is quite late in my opinion (it might not be, we do not know what the future holds). Now, returning to our initial question, having a degree would have been useful while investing in bitcoin a few years back? I don't think so. So why are we pressured into going to a university we might not like, to learn stuff we might not like, and then to finally get a job that is not what we would rise to meet our expectations. To put it in other words, my opinion is that we can succeed without a degree, we just have to play our cards right and have a bit of luck.

Now I want to end this post with a question for you guys: " Do you agree with my POV ?(not the porn thing, but now that I mentioned it you started thinking about it) If you don't agree with what I have said, feel free to share your opinions, I would like to see other people's perspective on life in general.
