I really hope you would be able to find the job that your looking for very soon. It's funny I worked with IBM too way back in 2010 and I have spent almost four years working on a job that didn't suite me. I was also rooting to take the programming slot, but the competition is too tight.
I guess sometimes even though we really love to get something, we just have to also look else where. You already have a craft, maybe photography is your calling.
Woah, it seems that we have the same issue back then for you. You know it feels kinda frustrating when you cannot find the job that you want. I am always wondering what if I do have it.
About photography, it already came through my mind, but as you can see I am not that good compared to other big photogs out there. I still need a lot of practice, appropriate gears and exposure to be booked. And for now, I really need to find a stable job and a job that I want.
