Great Buddha display held at Drepung Monastery in Tibet

The Shoton Festival began Monday in Lhasa, Tibet. And a great Buddha display is being held at the Drepung Monastery on the outskirts of Lhasa, attracting a large number of worshippers and tourists.
A 500-square-meter traditional Tibetan painting of the great Buddha is positioned on a hillside near Drepung Monastery. Devotees assemble with traditional scarves known as khatas. They touch their foreheards with the scarves to show devotion, and pray for safety, happiness and fortune.
The Great Buddha Display marks the beginning of the Shoton Festival, which also features Tibetan opera shows and other theatrical performances.
