The Privilege of Creating Art - Meditation #33

in #life7 years ago

Creating art - the raw and real kind that you have to dig deep for - can be painful. You have to venture inside yourself to emerge with a creation that you think is brilliant, but the rest of the world might think is trash. Needless to say, the process of creating art isn't always very "fun".

Creating is a privilege, despite all the struggles that art introduces. Somewhere in the world, there is an artist with a book in them that will never be written. Perhaps, they live under an oppressive regime that would punish them for publishing their ideas. They would give their life for the opportunity to create and for the freedom of expression, something that you and I enjoy without notice every day.

As you toil over your artwork, remember that the burdens of creation are an honour to shoulder. You may be frustrated, ignored, or even laughed at. But to exercise the right of self-expression through creativity is worth the scrutiny. To merely create, even if the creation itself is not celebrated, is an accomplishment.

When the struggle with art feels like it's all for naught, remember that you are lucky to even be able to pick up a pen or paintbrush. To create freely is a privilege that not all of the world enjoys yet. Until everyone can openly express themselves through art, I feel that you and I are obligated to cherish this privilege.

So, what will you create today?

Art in modern days sounds like doing science in the dark ages.

Haha yes. I painted a bit of a bleak outlook here.

I think that we often overlook how lucky (most of) us on Steemit are. The ability to create something new every day and share it with the world is quite amazing.

There are still corners of the Earth where particular ideas and topics are not permitted. I wanted to remind everyone, including myself, that our struggles with art are actually a tremendously good thing.

The problem of creativity is a good problem to have!

I can so much relate to that. There are deadly ideas which could caused me to be in a trouble but the secret is, I always hide them behind my travels, behind the food pictures. Only those who read will understand.

Hello, @Macchiata. Yes, I knew there would be Steemians that aren't as lucky as I am. I am disappointed to hear that you feel you must hide your ideas. It is probably wise that you continue to do so, but my heart goes out to you. I hope that you are one day able to express yourself more freely. I believe that artistic expression is a human right, and I will celebrate the day that we can all be free to create what we wish to.

Thank you for being such a good friend on Steemit. <3

Yes we are privileged to be able to express ourselves so freely. It's sad to think that in this day and age there are still so many people who cannot express themselves as openly as they would like. So I say if you can embrace what you love and speak openly about it then you should, so many people are still so scared to express themselves for fear of being judged by others that they don't, what's a bit of judgement vs being imprisoned or killed.

Absolutely! That stakes are so low for so many of us.

I really wrote this piece for myself and for when I get down on my own art. What do I really have to worry about? What's the worst that can happen? There are people out there that really have to worry when they publish their words. I should remember that.

Thank you for your comment, @jusipassetti! Have a great day!

"You have to venture inside yourself to emerge with a creation that you think is brilliant, but the rest of the world might think is trash." -This sentence is written well, good job.

Thank you! I am glad at least one of them was well-written ;) that beats some of my worst days!

Have a good one.

You are SO exactly right! I've had ideas buzzing in my head for years and for most of that time, simply didn't do anything, or not much, for fear of failure and ridicule - or worse - indifference. But I am so lucky and privileged to be in a position where I have that coveted "room of onesown" at least some of the time. I have a job, but with great flexibility - I have free time! So many people don't even have time to get enough sleep, let alone think about self-expression. Thanks for your post. Lovely thoughts. Keep creating!

I'm so pleased that this resonated with you! It's not something many people think about on a regular basis. We just need to keep shooting from the hip and creating! It's a great thing to do, win, lose, or draw!

Have a great day!

Another killer post chris 🙏🏼

It is indeed a privilege and a duty in a sense for us who have the possibility to project our consciousness onto a piece of art and share it with the rest of the world ✌🏼

Dude! I love being around all the creatives on Steemit! It gets me so fired up. We need to all take a moment here and there to recognize how lucky we are.

This is a great post. You write real truth, here and it's good to be reminded. I'm really fascinated by the power of creativity, and I think it's essential to life, truly. I haven't been able to fully submerge myself in the research about it that I'd like to, but it's in the plan...

Hello, @Uniwisp! Thank you! I'm glad that you liked the post. Being creative is a great thing in and of itself. It feels wonderful to create, even when there are no tangible rewards. I'm thankful that I have the freedom to do that.

I appreciate your comment and support.

You have yourself a great day.

People can think of 'it' as trash
But to you... It's every thing
That's all that count #believe

Can't wait around for others to validate you! You could be waiting a long time!

@chrismccron I heard that "Art therapy" is quite familiar in Western coutries and it helps many PTSD patients overcome their traumas bro.

Hence, it's possible to heal our souls with paintings...

Yes! Art isn't all doom and gloom. It can be therapeutic.

I think that I find art forces me to confront feelings of shame. "If my art isn't good, perhaps I don't deserve to make it?" That thought will often go through my mind.

I need to often remind myself that we are all allowed to create, and we should exercise that right.

It doesn't matter what the result is.

Thanks for your comment, @Wilhb81!

I don't personally do a lot of art, but I started drawing this year for the first time (and really well), but lately the creative spark to do more hasn't been there, though game streaming on dlive has been wearing me out haha.

I'm glad you started drawing and streaming! Sorry to hear that it has been draining lately. I think that it is normal to go through spells of that. I think I'd like to do some streaming in the future too!
