Scientists Want To Engineer Volcanic Eruptions To Cool Down The Earth's Atmosphere!

The process is called geoengineering, they claim that these volcanic simulations will cool down our atmosphere! Pretty scary right?

Solar Geoengineering

They plan that spraying a large amount of aerosol into the atmosphere will reflect sunlight away from the planet, effectively slowing the effects of global warming.

To understand how bad of an idea this is we have to know the past of these poison cans!

Below is a graph which explains the hypothesis:

Image

They will release multiple high-altitude blimps which will release the aerosol into the atmosphere, effectively mimicking a volcanic eruption's gases.

Geoengineering is the deliberate large-scale intervention in the Earth's natural systems to counteract climate change. There is wide range of proposed geoengineering techniques.

What is Geoengineering

They Will Use Sulfate Aerosol

Sulfate aerosol is a very bad pollutant which should not be deliberately released into the atmosphere in my opinion.

The term sulfate aerosols is used for a suspension of fine solid particles of a sulfate or tiny droplets of a solution of a sulfate or of sulfuric acid (which is not technically a sulfate). ... These aerosols can cause a cooling effect on earth. (LINK)

Two Different Types Of Aerosol

There are a few points we must cover before debunking this!

There are naturally occurring aerosols originate from sources such as volcanoes, dust storms, and forest and grassland fires. (LINK)

The burning of fossil fuels is one human activity that is creating aerosols. Aerosols created by human activities currently make up about 10% of the total amount of aerosols in our atmosphere with most of that concentrated in the Northern Hemisphere. (LINK)

Why This Is Theoretically A Great Idea

If sulfate aerosol wasn't one of the most detrimental climate change causes in the first place we should definitely consider this.

However, it is not! Why are we fighting fire with fire? We will damage the stratosphere very heavily by releasing a cloud of environmentally damaging particles into the atmosphere!

We need to look back to the history of these aerosol particles to better understand.

Image

Why We Should Avoid This At All Costs

We are currently only producing 10% of aerosol in our atmosphere, imagine if that went up to 80%.

Use of the cans for consumer applications took off during the 1930s, until the mid-1970s when ozone depletion first came to the public’s attention.

They have since made it mandatory to make the aerosol CFC free.

Image

Modern-day, CFC-free aerosol sprays still emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that contribute to ground-level ozone levels, a key component of asthma-inducing smog. (LINK)

This means that aerosol is still very environmentally unfriendly!

I do not want an increase in aerosol usage! I do not want the government to trick us into damaging our planet further!

I've heard this concept before, yeah sounds good on paper but not sure how good it will be in the long run

Yes, scientists love arguing that their sound writing of a hypothesis ensures it is correct when it usually is not!

Keep living in the moment, it is the only way.

True, but we also have to take measurements to reduce our impact to climate change

Of course! We need to allocate more of our time and effort to this cause!

It might not be the result of scientist research though...

We start by our own actions :)

Good one. jeanpi1908 nicely picked this post. Keep it up @chron

I sure will!

Really informative, thanks for sharing.

Have a great day.

Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed

Have a great day as well

Welcome and thank you.

Same to you sir!

Your statements about the nonnviability of "Aerosol" technology do not run congruent with the facts that (the provided quotes) you've present. As a matter of fact, the debunk the very thrust the argument you're making.

The aerosol is still ruining our ozone layer.

If we want to stop global warming why are we damaging the only protection we have against the supposedly dangerous rays of the sun when not filtered through the ozone.

Thanks for commenting @deadsparrow

I don't think so @chron. The only evidence that is of any weight actual isn't an argument for the causes contributing to Ozone depletion but asthma.

So you suggest we poison our atmosphere to make it less hot?

You'll be hard put to find any place where I'm making such a suggestion. I'm saying there is an incoherence between your concern and the proof used
to legitimize your concerns, i.e. facts.
You seem to have equated some of those outlying and admitted problems (asthma) to mean they serve as evidence. That is an ill use of data.

I do wonder if we can use something similar for terraforming Mars. Great post by the way.

Thank you very much!

That would be very interesting 😀.

Terraforming Mars...

This was quite an interesting read and the minute I read the idea about reducing global warming by spraying aerosol sprays in the atmosphere, I was like erm that could be happening. Glad to know my first reaction was right.

Very glad you enjoyed the read!

I am very passionate about this, thank you for commenting 😀

that is seriously impressive, thanks for sharing @chron!

Thank you very much @mcfarhat, I will keep alerting the masses 😉

This is mind boggling!

Thank you very much! Hope you have recovered!
