Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS / SBRT)
Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) is a non-surgical radiation therapy used to treat functional abnormalities and small tumors in the brain. It can deliver precisely targeted radiation in fewer high-dose treatments than traditional therapy, and this can help conserve healthy tissue. When SRS is used to treat tumors of the body, it is called body-based stereotactic radiation therapy (SBRT, for its acronym in English).

SRS and SBRT are usually performed on an outpatient basis. Ask your doctor if you need to make arrangements for someone to take you home, and if you should avoid eating or drinking, or taking medication for several hours before treatment. Talk to your doctor if there is any chance that you are pregnant or if you are breast-feeding, or if you are taking oral medications or insulin to control your diabetes. Discuss if you have an implanted medical device, claustrophobia or allergies to contrast materials.
