The Most Underrated Movies on Netflix
You’ve probably got a pretty good idea of the sort of thing you can find on Netflix these days.
If you are like me, when you find yourself especially bored, you usually resort to Netflix. Especially with the weather getting chillier, laying in bed under your covers and blankets watching a good movie sounds incredibly appealing.
I am a huge movie fan, and I make it a point to watch a wide variety of movies, especially when it comes to Netflix. Often times I see people ask for Netflix suggestions, and this week I decided to compose a list of underrated movies that are on Netflix that you should totally check out if you are bored.
1. Wind River
WIND RIVER is a chilling thriller that follows a rookie FBI agent (Elizabeth Olsen) who teams up with a local game tracker with deep community ties and a haunted past (Jeremy Renner) to investigate the murder of a local girl on a remote Native American Reservation in the hopes of solving her mysterious death. Written and directed by Taylor Sheridan, WIND RIVER also stars Gil Birmingham, Jon Bernthal, Julia Jones, Kelsey Asbille, and James Jordan.
2. Nightcrawler
Nightcrawler is a 2014 American thriller film written and directed by Dan Gilroy. It stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Louis Bloom, a stringer who records violent events late at night in Los Angeles and sells the footage to a local television news station. Rene Russo, Riz Ahmed, and Bill Paxton also star. A common theme in the film is the symbiotic relationship between unethical journalism and consumer demand.
3. Prisoners
Prisoners is a 2013 American thriller film directed by Denis Villeneuve from a screenplay written by Aaron Guzikowski. The film has an ensemble cast including Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Viola Davis, Maria Bello, Terrence Howard, Melissa Leo and Paul Dano.[3] It is Villeneuve's first English-language feature film.
The plot focuses on the abduction of two young girls in Pennsylvania and the subsequent search for the suspected abductor by the police.
4. SNOWTIME!
The animated feature Snowtime! takes place in a small village where the children are on winter break. They promptly split up into teams for a snowball fight. One of the squads builds a massive snow fort for the activity, which the other attempts to take over. The fight lasts for almost a week, during which time the kids on both sides start taking more and more extreme measures to win. That choice ends up coming with a cost.
5. Oldboy
Park Chan-wook’s thriller is one of the most harrowing and shattering movies in recent memory. The plot is centered around the bumbling Oh Dae-Su who gets kidnapped and imprisoned in a hotel room for fifteen years. After he is mysteriously released from his imprisonment, he goes on a quest to find the person responsible. This is not your typical psychological thriller though as the story takes so many twists and turns that you are always left guessing. What makes this movie great is the excellent combination of Hong-Kong style action scenes mixed in with expertly shot drama that raises more questions than answers. Make no mistake though this is a film noir at heart and it only gets darker the farther along you get, and the final plot twist at the end of the movie is one of the most soul-crushing of all time.
That's it folks. Tell me about your favorite movies on Netflix in the comment section below.
