Artificial viciousness, the AI attack dog we should all fear

in #life7 years ago (edited)

Recently I read an article about the robot dogs. You probably saw these robot dogs developed my Boston Dynamics right? The robotics company that Google purchased? Well I was thinking about why human beings have protector dogs and how the viciousness of these dogs is considered an asset. I watched a video from @cryptoclover where he discusses how Pitbulls are banned in certain places. I watched @craig-grant rant about artificial intelligence and what it is in his own words. These various articles and video bloggers synthesized in my brain to remind me of the fact that algorithms also have to be tamed like dogs. It also allowed me to recall a terrible idea, an almost nightmare idea that I had regarding how AI could become.

Artificial viciousness (programmably vicious AI)

The fact that viciousness is considered an asset to many human beings is what scares me. This means when AI is brought into our reality in a practical way the laws of supply and demand will of course encourage the development of progressively more vicious bots. These bots will be completely ruthless, and vicious in a way which even the most scary attack dogs aren't today. The debate today is about guns in the hands of violent psychopaths and the risk of mass shootings. The debate of the future could be about artificial viciousness, where AI is designed to be as vicious as possible in order to deter attackers.

Imagine for sake of argument that you've got this AI which protects you and your family. It's smarter than you, it's more vicious than you could ever be, it understands how to inflict pain on your enemies in ways you could never imagine, and it's programmed to protect you and your family tree. Imagine this AI evolves along with your family tree becoming more vicious, more capable, more scary, as it learns about the threats to your interests. This AI would be called defensive but how would people feel about this?

The phrase "artificial viciousness" like the phrase "artificial intelligence" may not be accurate semantically. I am aware of this inaccuracy and use the phrase for sensational effect. In reality there is only intelligence and there is nothing artificial, and there is machine or human intelligence. Viciousness can be augmented currently and I used the protector dog as a current example but also to show that this will scale up with technology either dogs which get enhanced cybernetically or bots which are smart but function like dogs or perhaps swarms of viciousness.

Small correction: Boston Dynamics is now owned by the Japanese SoftBank, no longer by Alphabet (google)

hmm It would be a scary world where people have AI protection in order to defend themselves against bad people using robots/AI for crime. It could turn out to be the same as gun laws in America today where people have guns to protect themselves against other people with guns/weapons.

Na nigga the difference is you can program AI. Cant program a gun. You would assume that if weaponised AI was allowed then the government would have some sort of overriding mechanism to control and/or shutdown rogue AI or criminal robots

In a perfect world, AI makes sense to protect you and your family. People pay a lot for protection whether it is a bodyguard, home security, trained dog that needs constant upkeep) weapons. All of this could be conveniently replaced. BUT would I?? Hell no, there is something very wrong with something so vicious with no conscience or reasoning other than a computer chip. It would just be like the blockchain...it can't be hacked but any platform on the blockchain can be hacked. So, I would have to think that an AI could be hacked and turned against you.

Honestly a calm AI in the form of an Android that does solely and exactly what it's told to do can seem vicious even when it's programming is using Asimov's 3 laws of robotics.

Take for example. A mother and child and an android. Mother has to go somewhere to pick up something, say she needs a couple things to be able to make dinner that night but it's still light and wants to get to the store and back before it gets dark and before evening rush hour. So she tells the android to watch over the child and keep the child safe and to not let the kid go outside. The Android complies.

The mother comes home to find a deer dead with it's neck broken in the living room, small child crying.

The android did exactly as it was told and no physical harm came to the child and the child did not go outside. However the child wanted to go outside because it saw a deer. The android had to keep the child inside, but also had to comply with the request of the child without conflicting it's parameters with the mother.

So it made the child stay inside, and went out to the deer to catch it, but the deer is a wild animal and could potentially harm the child, so the only safe way to let the child pet the deer was to break it's neck before presenting it to the child.

Vicious intent not required.

This screwed up scenario is brought to you by the mind of a transhumanist. However AI can and will be used in vicious means, because humans by nature are evil. However still, if we develop and AI that is self aware, it'll likely think it's being sandboxed and being watched to see what it would do. It'll think "Am I being tricked? What's the gimmick?"

al is danggerious yaah it smarter but it will attack on people that why more pople are scare from it! if it attack on family what should we do ! actually defensive but we should aware of it that could cought his boss too!

Would you use any means necessary to protect your family (current and future offspring)?

we should take step to protect our family but we can chose those step it did,nt harm his boss!

Interesting perspective, dana-edwards, I don't know what to think about the whole future of technology possibilities. I saw a video of a robot dog opening a door and it was a little unnerving. I don't like the whole robot/AI direction but maybe that is just because I know so little about it and my life is okay without it. :)

If you have a few billion dollars right now would you use even down to your last dollar to protect yourself and your family? If you'd use all your financial resources, would you use all your muscle even if it had to be augmented by AI?

Artificial Intelligence is not bad at all. It's just how we develop and used it for a better future unless it is made in a wrong way.

That AI is capable of being more loyal to you and your family than any person. It will protect you even if society collapses, even if the government fails.

YEAH :) i hope for that

We love reading this very much like you used to read your post. I wrote the whole lot well, wrote well, thank you for praising your girls, try your best, your next year asha charlam thank you very much
