If you like Cashews you better stockpile them now
Why are Cashews so dang expensive?
Cashews typically are imported from overseas and anything imported is going to fetch a higher price. On one hand it's imported from places like Vietnam or other locations but on the other hand I suspect prices are deliberately inflated. Considering the popularity of cashews compared to most other nuts it kind of does defy reasoning that cashews would also be one of the most expensive going for prices such as $12 per pound raw. To buy the best whole cashews the price can be much higher.
Cashews grow on a tree and are technically nuts

Cashews have some interesting health benefits but are not as healthy as walnuts which provide omega 3s. In small to moderate portions cashews appear to be healthy but they are also very high calorie. If you seek to gain weight such as body building or exercise a lot then cashews become a very good source of quality fat. The high cost of cashews can prevent some people from over eating them which can be good but also bad for people who really like them.
Cashews are beneficial for controlling blood sugar, according to a study in the December 2010 issue of "Molecular Nutrition and Food Research." In the study, researchers from the University of Montreal tested an extract from cashew nuts, which contains anacardic acid, on lab rats. The results of their study show that the anacardic acid improves the ability of sugar to enter cells, which decreases the amount of sugar circulating in the bloodstream. Cashews also may promote the metabolism of sugar into energy, a process called glycolysis. Controlling blood-sugar levels reduces the risk of developing diabetes, a condition often associated with obesity and heart disease.
Cashew fruit grows on the tree, and at the bottom of the fruit is what we commonly refer to as "cashew nut". I'm not sure if the "cashew nut" it technically a nut, seed or a drupe.
I'll have to share this article with others, although I can't stand these things
@dana-edwards I really like Cashews and once you start eating them it is hard to Stop........
You didn't mention why I should stockpile them. The article you sourced talks about a drought.
A drought leads to scarcity, and scarcity leads to a rise in price.
Correct, but the OP doesn't even mention a drought when defending his title of why they should be stockpiled. He linked one Bloomberg article to reference that. He gave a brief nutritional analysis and then gave His theories of imported goods, and purposeful inflation as why they are expensive and should be stockpiled.
But you are correct. If demand stays steady and the supply is affected because of a drought in Vietnam, price increases are certain.
True, the mention of drought evaded me until I read his comment and only then I realised why they should be stockpiled.
I have a cashew tree, here in Florida, which I purchased at about 2 feet tall, and it is now around 8 feet tall. It does not like the cold. I hope for it to produce in another 4-5 years. Interestingly, I am after the juice from the apple. It is sweet like a mango, but even better. In south America it is mixed with Brazilian rum and is kind of the national drink there.
I love cashews so much
Thank you so much for sharing it dana ❤
Cashews are not expensive, our salary is too low. Everybody should get paid more.
Be your own boss and you can raise your salary.
But only when it makes sense because otherwise you can't afford to pay yourself :)
After reading this I feel compelled to go to Dollar General for cashews! There's no stopping me now guys!
Other factors effect price of an agricultural product. Usually it's the weather, labour cost and transportation costs. Good article because I never knew the health benefits of cashew nuts.
Good day @dana-edwards I appreciate all the info and hard work thank you :) Followed
great!! :)
