"Family is the most important thing"
This lady’s name is Patricia Bishop and she happens to be my Nan to. She was born in Walton & Weybridge, is currently 72 years old and was unfortunately widowed at 71 to her husband (my Grandad) of 52 years.
Her favourite artist is Elvis and her first record was ‘Now or never’. Patricia grew up in Farnborough, Hampshire, England. She has two brothers, one of which resides in Australia.
Patricia was not a fan of school and regrets that she had religion rammed down her throat and was forced to try write with her right hand rather than her natural left, thus hating school, although she does admit she wishes she had a better time and tried harder. Her first job out of school was as a machinist in an industrial estate 5minutes from where she lived.
She describes her youngster self as a tall skinny mod but immediately jumps to saying, ‘but no drugs!’ while looking over her glasses and shaking her finger at myself. This led me to ask Patricia’s thoughts on todays youngsters, to which she replies ‘CRAP, but it is not their fault, its their parents, as they’re always on their phone instead of giving their kids the attention they need’
Later in life she moved onto have 3 kids and subsequently 5 grandsons, all while working at the local car auctions for 27 years.
If Patricia was 20 years old again, she would have loved to have travelled more and says, my husband always said, ‘do what you want, not what others want you to do’
When asked what the most important thing in life is, she replied: ‘Family’ without hesitation.
