Turning the Corner on a Stiff Hip? Maybe, Just Maybe
Back at it today with a 450am wake up. I have been feeling pretty solid the last few morning wakeups with very little stiffness in my right hip.
I suppose I can attribute that to improved strength and flexibility in that troublesome area. Still, I won't take this improvement for granted. I'm too old to do that. :)
Today was the one day of the week where I do the front squat and I have to admit I was still unsure about how that would feel. It's my lower back that gives me some trouble with this movement at least on the first rep of the heavy sets. That area is often just a bit too tight on that first rep such that I often just go 3/4 off the way down. Reps 2 and up are usually fine
As it turns out my lower back was not a problem on the first rep or any rep. It almost makes me feel younger.
Anyway, the numbers...
front squat - 10x45 4x95 4x105 3x115 3x125 2x135 3x5x155 3x135
I am actually not sure if that's a new mark for my 3 heavy sets. It's been a few weeks since I got to this point, if ever. But I do know that my form and feeling were never better than this morning.
barbell reverse lunges - 3x12x115
I threw this one in for some extra leg work. In particular I wanted to do some single leg work to complement the usual squat movements.
overhead press - 10x45 3x95 1x105 5x116.25 5x117.5 5x118.8 4x105
I know this is not a new mark. That would have been 120 lbs. Still, I felt really solid on this one.
pull ups - 5x31.25 5x31.25 4x31.25
No new mark here and I couldn't get that last rep on the last set. I think I didn't give myself enough time between sets I think. Not thrilled with it for sure, but there ya go.
