Losing Yourself to Development

in #life6 years ago (edited)

Nostalgia is what I feel when I see photos depicting the simple living everybody had in the past.

Developments in industry and technology have had its perks. With this, globalization has been born which brought everyone from different corners of the Earth closer. I am really very grateful to have been one of the many to witness this since this gives a lot of people opportunities to communicate and mingle with people from other cultures with ease. This also helps understanding different lifestyles and traditions much easier than in the past especially to those who don't happen to be living a privileged life.

However, this has also caused many to have become distant and depressed. The high of competition and pressure makes a lot of individuals enjoy life less and lose the emotional connections they have from their loved ones. It is very sad to see someone being eaten by their work because they feel the need to stay on top or else they fall behind and can't redeem themselves or have not enough money to survive. Exactly because of this mind set created from the very fast development that many can't keep up that many have lost their cheerful selves.

I may not have been breathing for three decades but I do feel that these we have now are doing much more damage to our morale and individuality. I grew up in the country so I've had a taste on how wonderful it is to live simply and away from worry and stress. I know that developments always and will happen but I do hope that at least these can be stalled even a little to let everyone find their pace and appreciate life more without worrying too much.

Couldn't agree more. Its so easy to feel like everything depends on getting the project "out the door" at the expense of everything. Being a developer and now working with a large company that makes software I often feel the urge to drop everything and FIX IT for fear of losing the job or falling behind. Thankfully, I have fixed hours at said company so the urge is quickly quieted by the lack of payable time the company can give. Being forced to "clock out" and breathe has been the best part about the job so far.

@bflanagin Good that you've somehow found a way out. Know that you're lucky enough because of that 'coz a lot are still struggling to be out of the situation and it prettily is present everywhere you go.
