A Beginner father, the first year

in #life7 years ago

Some people say you are not a father until the baby is born. Nothing so far of the truth! I dont know if it happens to everyone but since the very moment I knew I was going to be a father I almost explode!

So many things came in like a storm in my mind, where can I put the crib? will 500 diapers be enough ? WILL I BE A GOOD FATHER?! The truth is you are never ready, but at the same time its AWESOME TO LEARN!

All the first experiences are cute, you even look dumb, cause you smile just because the baby blinks twice too fast. but that’s perfectly normal and good!. I am a male nurse, so I had a few experience about taking care of babies but nothing prepares you to what is coming

Skipping all the process of getting the room ready for the baby, which is exhausting but fun! I will tell you some of the most remarkable experiences of my baby's first year.

The Birth, OF COURSE, the waiting is endless... No matter how much you look the clock it never move forward. When he was finally born I saw him and I cried like I was the baby. You Watch the movies when the baby holds your finger with his entire hand? that actually happens! and its amazing how you immediately start to think different, you know, now, you will live just for him and you are ok with it! Maybe is something about animal instinct but I will call it LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT.

The first night at home, you are tired, like if you ran a marathon, yet you stand up and watch him sleep, not just for love, you are actually scared, you watch his belly to see if he is breathing, I know sounds creepy, but it is what it is and They do, even when sometimes you think they’re not, it's all part of being new at this.

DONT SAY MY BABY WONT BE LIKE THAT, its usual to say if/when I have a baby, he/she wont have that behavior or he won't sleep with us in bed he will just sleep in his crib, non of those words are real, You are new at this, you get tired, and kids will be kids. Let them play, let them sleep with you, they will eventually want and need their own space, and there is nothing nicer that sleeping with your baby.

Changing diapers is not so hard, but breast feeding is, support your wife/couple. Breast feeding is essential to his health specially the first two (2) Years. But it's really hard, it takes dedication and patience so be there to your partner and try to help her with everything you can, REMEMBER BEING A FATHER ISN’T JUST PUT FOOD ON THE TABLE.

They get sick, its something normal, you know that and I know that, but when the fever is high we totally forgot it! Be patience and take care of him, take him to the doctor, they study a lot to know what they know, listen to them, and they will get better.

The FIRST BIRTHDAY PARTY! you start to organize it since he/she is 6 months old, yet the day has come and you think that everything is missing. The truth is he wont remember it, it is more a celebration for you, for being a father/mother for a whole year without screw in it (at least that’s what you think, LOL). They will enjoy half of the party and will be sleep the other half, so don’t worry about it and enjoy it, you DID IT for an entire year!

In conclusion, appreciate all the moments of being a father, its something wonderful and gratifying, be there for your family, they don’t need you to be perfect they need you to be there, loving and supporting them because we are all new at this, a new mother, a new father a new human being starting his life.
