Hi there! Recently I started to publish a series of posts about my trip to Vyborg. Earlier I talked about some of the sights of this city. It's time to write about the city itself)

Vyborg (Finnish Viipuri, Swedish Viborg, German Wiburg) is a city in Russia, the administrative center of the Vyborg municipal district of the Leningrad Region. Forms a municipal formation city of Vyborg.

The city is located on the shore of the Vyborg Gulf, located in the north-eastern part of the Gulf of Finland. It is a major economic, industrial and cultural center of the Leningrad region, a port on the Baltic Sea, an important junction of highways and railways.

Vyborg, founded in the Middle Ages by the Swedes, since 2010 is the only historic settlement on the territory of the Leningrad region. Until 1940 it was the second largest city in Finland. Attractions include the Vyborg Castle, the Alvar Aalto Library, the Monrepos Park. In total, more than 300 different monuments are concentrated in Vyborg: architectural, historical, sculptural, archaeological, landscape art. Since March 2010 - "City of military glory."

The population is 77,400 people. (2018), the area is 160.847 km ².
