Just Rich vs Wealthy

in #life3 years ago (edited)

"I just wanna have money." Literally everyone has this same thought on their minds. That is, at least those of us that really need it. I mean, I know I didn't give a single worry when I was quite younger. It was all fun and games day in day out. Then as we get older, we realize that that's not going to be the case anymore.

One thing comes to mind though. Is it okay to be "just rich?"
Sadly, not many people remember the word "wealthy."

What is Being Rich Anyway?

Being rich simply means that you have a lot of income. It just means you have a lot of money in your account.

The thing is, you can actually be rich and still be in serious debt. Just because someone is living "the life" and buying a lot of cars and getting a lot of fancy jewelry doesn't necessarily mean that the person is financially free.
Come to think of it, people that are just rich spend a lot more than they earn. That could feel good at first but will totally damn you in the end.

Take for instance, someone has a very nice job he does solely with his hands which makes him six figures a year. This guy owns the latest BMW model, has fine sets of jewelry and lives happily with his family in a very expensive penthouse.
Now this guy has no investment whatsoever whether it be stocks or income yielding property. All he has is his income. What if he gets laid off at his work place? What comes next is recurring debts. Trust me, everybody hates debts more than Chris.

I don't really hate Chris though

That being said,

What is Wealth?

"Wealth is practically the abundance of valuable financial assets or physical possessions which can be converted into a form that can be used for transactions"Wikipedia. It is basically the value of all the assets of worth owned by a person.

Being wealthy is more than just having money. Being wealthy means you can comfortably go to the store and buy something without looking at the price because you know there's something there, an investment that's giving you ten times more than that amount in your sleep.
It is being healthy, being happy and having total financial freedom. It means that you have a very positive net worth. It means that you're not always thinking about the debts that you've not paid because you know that when debts come, you can handle them easily

Wealthy people have reached a point in their lives that they've lived below their means for years that they've realized that they don't need to buy 20 cars or eat at a fancy restaurant everyday before they can prove their worth.

Attaining that 'wealthy' stage is painstaking and comes with a lot of sacrifices. It is only when a person learns to save, invest wisely and live below his/her means that he/she can can finally begin to get a little of that cake which is financial freedom.
