Racism and sexism is probably the social problems that occur around the world, and seems not to be able to overcome. Even still, many people are still not aware of the dangers caused by the latent racism and sexism. But it turned out a little smile could be the drug of social problems.

A study published in the journal Motivation and Emotion, states that when a person smiles, foreigners will be not judge him based on race or gender. In other words, by being friendly and open, racism and sexism on a small scale will not happen.

This study was conducted with 93 students ask to see someone's face various photos, and assess their personalities based on the photo. Photos consisting of various races, including Caucasian, East Asia, and men and women, consists of photos with a neutral face and smile.

When looked at photos with an expressionless face, various judgments appear. Such as the notion that Caucasian men look 'unfriendly' than Caucasian women. But it is all lost when they saw the smiling photo.

According to Nicole Senft, author of the study, who also teaches at Georgetown University, this can be done by the minority stereotyped. But nonetheless, it is too simple to do, and racism, sexism and other social issues is complex. Senft himself said that this research does not want to impose a moral responsibility to the people who have been stereotyped. Awareness should be increased to all people regardless of their social status.

This may be done by the participants and the subject is greater, then the results are used for the purposes of a campaign to raise public awareness of how bad the world when there is still racism and sexism is the problem.
