Yes, when hardships come, it's true maybe we suffer, maybe we even hate life. But I'm sure in the future, we will look back at these hardships and we will see that it was among the best things that could happen to us because it was an opportunity to grow and be better a person as you said. Actually, I'm reading a book called Antifragile (by Nassim Nicholas Taleb) and the author says:

Given the unattainability of perfect robustness, we need a mechanism by which the system regenerates itself continuously by using, rather than suffering from, random events, unpredictable shocks, stressors, and volatility.
