"If I send you the right amount of money can you buy a Bitcoin for me". - MOM

in #life7 years ago

It's not often that I get flappergasted by a WhatsApp message but today was one of those days.

"If I send you the right amount of money can you buy a Bitcoin for me". - MOM

Staring in disbelieve at the message I decided to give her a call.

I had to call her anyway because I forgot to call her for her birthday yesterday. Horrible..I know. I did send a message but that's not the same. Even being distracted by Pizza day with my nieces is no excuse for that.

Luckily she couldn't care much about it..she just liked that I called. Pew....

Now my mom is a very wise woman so I didn't want to bug her about whether she was sure or not about it. I already knew she had made up her mind.

I just wanted to make sure she knew about the risk factor. It's after all a volatile investment. And we are also around an all time high.

She knew.

She wants it as a long term investment and even knew about the upcoming potential split (that's hopefully averted.)

We talked for a while about a lot of stuff. In the end, she said she would transfer the money to me today.

I was in the gym when the money arrived. She had transferred me the money for 1 BTC at the current price value.

Sadly when I got home the BTC price had already gone up around 50 euro. I bought the 1 BTC after sending her a message about it.

While writing this 5 hours later the price has gone down 60 euro. A small swing but somehow it does more to me than it normally does but that's because she's now invested.

So miners when you read this my mom is now invested so make it right, please :)

Thank you!

I've been getting this from a (contemporary) lady friend of mine as well. Honestly, one of the main reasons you can tell the crypto market is not a bubble is because it's still darn near impossible to move substantial amounts of money in and out quickly (depending on your jurisdiction - that's how it is in the US.)

That's an incredible story man. I remember when you were talking about how it was difficult talking about Steemit and crypto with your family, but it looks like your knowledge and passion has stoked their curiosity and garnered their respect in this area.

It's one thing to emotionally condition yourself against the swings of the market, but quite another when someone you love is also at risk. I hope all goes well and she sees fabulous gains on her BTC. One really cool thing now is, this gives you and her another thing to share and discuss together. Knowing how passionate you are about crypto, that brings a smile to my face brother! Really cool indeed. Congrats!

Thanks, man! Talking crypto has always been difficult with my family but they are slowly defrosting :). Steemit has been a blessing making everything more real.

Isn't it amazing to get the older generation invested in crypto? I set my mom up with a Bittrex account a few months ago and she owns an alt that I think (hope) will do really well for her. It's already grown 8x her initial investment, which was very small.

That's a nice return on investment! Awesome man!

Yeah, as they say, even a broken clock is right twice a day. Lol! It was just a lucky break. They will, hopefully, be able to buy a new vehicle when it matures. Their Jeep is 20 years old so it is time. : )

You deserve a vote my man @exyle.
It is good to spread the knowledge about crypto.
Your mom just cemented the idea that bitcoin is the future.
Always good and genuine post.
Keep on steemit !!

Thank you!

Your mom is a wise woman indeed. BTC is a great investment, along with Steem.

I agree! Given enough time.

You should have recommended Steemit to your MOM... By investing STEEM in the minnowbooster bot which delegates steem power and can expect roughly 100% return per year, even without the need of blogging ,posting or curating.

Don't worry I am Exyle mother and I have steem because I also write on Steemit!!
Check @Clio

Great.. following you now!

I have opted this idea. But she wanted BTC before the fork. Talking about living on the edge :)

Interesting and funny, my son called me yesterday and asked if he could buy some crypto from me. It turns out he had been discussing it with his sister.

Interesting times.

I wish your Mom the best of luck in her investment!

What a coincidence! Interesting times indeed!

Wow what an eye opener when you get a message like that, unless mom is trolling you haha

It's done, so it's real :)

@exyle I would def buy my mom some btc, I mine doge coin for my little brother haha hopefully it goes to a dollar and he'll be a rich man when he gets older.

I also have dogecoin! But remember 1 doge will always be 1 doge.

First of all, belated Happy B'day to your Mom. I wish her all the health and blessings. She must be a great woman. And I am surprised to read that she even knew about the bitcoin split. She's very informative and updated woman. I wish all the success for her Investment and I hope bitcoin will rise exponentially. Thank you @exyle for this conversation with us.
