Steempower is the motor towards freedom and worth the risk for me.

I'm currently packing my bags and it's a self imposed nightmare.

The constant feeling of forgetting something is a thing I have never been able to shake.

It's frustrating me a little bit because it's so irrational.

What can I possible forget that I can't acquire in London?

One of the biggest cities in the world!

All I basically need is my ticket, credit card and phone.

The rest is optional.

Thinking about it bit more I got struck by a cool thought.

Like Steemians that travel the world, with just a phone, a Wirex card and some Steempower.

Steempower to empower your blogging efforts and generate Steem/SMT's. (The more you have the easier this will be.).

A phone to make content with through cool mobile apps like Steepshot, Appics, Esteem and Partiko.

And a Wirex card to spend the earned STEEM that you converted for BTC through @blocktrades to pay for things.

Steempower plays a key roll here as well as the STEEM price.

It's so easy to see.

Steempower dictates how much Steem you can generate on average (stability factor) and the price dictates how much generated STEEM you will need in a day.

The higher the STEEM price the less Steempower you need.

The lower the STEEM price the more Steempower you need.

Or in numbers:

When Steem is $1000 and you have 1000SP you can generate 0,5 STEEM a day worth $500 a day.

When Steem is $1,40 (like today) and you have 1000SP you can generate 1 STEEM a day worth $0,70.

The balance will be different from person to person but I think it's a cool thought.

It's also easy to see that in the first example 1000SP is more than enough but in the second it's not for most.

It's one of the reasons I worked so hard to acquire Steempower.

Not for when the price goes up but for when the price goes lower.

And I know it takes a bit faith. (and nerves of steel, lol!)

But the ability to generate Steem makes Steempower one of the most powerful tokens in crypto in existence for me.

And once this thought got engrained in my head powering down became the one thing I knew I wanted to avoid at all costs.

Personally, I see it as the motor towards freedom and it makes it worth all the risk for me.

Puhhh, you are definitely one of the loudest voice when it comes to Steempower. And I have to admit that what you're saying about Steempower make me really think. For me, its essential no questions, but I am not sure if this asset will be one day really so crucial which convinced me today to take also a bit more risk. Acquiring Steempower via investing in my case.

I would really like to know what feeds your faith in that kind of matter? Why do you believe so hard in it? I mean you already have over 100k so many people would love to be in your position. It reminds me a bit to Christiano Ronaldo. He already won the ballon dor several times but he's hunting after more and more. This attitude made him one of the best two players in the world.

One of the things that drives me is the possibility of freedom. It's not often in life you are presented with an opportunity to get it. I was and I recognised it as such and jumped on it with all I had in 2016.

But it required taking risk (investing money in a project that was supposedly dying) and hard work. Most of what I could spare went into Steem. Trying not to get lost in the FUD was a challenge in it self.

I still keep working hard until I reach my goal of freedom. I either reach it or not. I'm all in. I still invest my own money and what I'm earning now is going straight back in SP.

The $ value of an account means nothing to me. All that matters is what it can generate. That's were the real power is.

Another reason I work so hard is because of the development on this blockchain. The way this blockchain has grown to what it is today is mind-boggling to me in just over 2 years.

I also see a clear roadmap for the blockchain itself with SMT's, HF20 (easy signups) and hive mind.

When SMT's come out SP/STEEM will get even more use cases.

  1. It will be the only trading pair vs SMT's.
  2. It pays for the credits/bandwidth the SMT's will need.

All this makes me realise that STEEM has the potential to be way more valuable in the future.

I also realise that with a fixed reward pool and a lot of new people joining in the future their will be way less Steem to go around.

Anything you can earn and powerup today is therefor extremely valuable in my opinion.

There are more reasons of course....I kinda like blogging too, lol :)

I hope this answers your question somewhat.

Edit

I did some digging and found this vlog from 18th may 2017. (from @4:02). Where I talk about it.

Man I wished I'd seen the video at that time, but I didn't have a clue of crypto back then. Well better late than ever

Hey man, that answer was a blog post unto itself!

Thanks for your detailed answer. Your passion and faith are felt in every single line. Especially when you put your own money into it.
And I get every point you mention. SMT,HF20 It sounds promising I would like to see one of them actually be implemented. As I know the SMT protocol should normally already be finished. But I guess we need more patient.

Great points! I have just started to change my opinion about purchasing SP and not generating it via an organic method. I was pretty set in my ways about growing my account without infusing more into it. I realize now I am not only hurting myself, but I am also hurting those that I follow and upvote by doing this.

Growing an account without investment at the start is very tough but it's the only way to earn STEEM risk free (besides time). I know I take (a lot) of risk by investing. I therefor don't recommend anyone to invest, I just share what I'm doing. I believe in this. I shared my whole journey from krill (July 2016) to where I am today. I do hope everyone that invest in STEEM understands what it is about and what they invest in.

Good points. I typically don't invest any more than I can afford to lose. I kind of view crypto in general like a trip to the casino. You go not expecting to come home with anything, but the memory of a good time :) That being said, I have a lot more faith in the value of Steemit now that I have been here for about half a year vs. some random fun gambling.

No question in my mind that I need to acquire as much steem power as i can right now because i do believe what you have mentioned in previous posts....

it’s gonna get a lot harder to come by!

but what’s exciting for me. regardless of steem is 1000 bucks or a buck forty like today...there is still massive value at any price (for me at least)

so even when it’s mooning, i’m still going to do everything i can to acquire as much as possible :)

I think you covered everything. You can buy what you need in London and Bianca can take everything you have forgotten. I wish you a great time in London and I assume you will talk about crypto and Steem with Ezzy if 'the girls' are not there! Do not forget that London has more to offer than crypto! Love mom!

Awesome advice, @clio! :)

Thank you! And we will keep that in mind!

Amen brother, this was the best thing I read today,

it's great to come back to such refreshing advice. i struck a deal last week with a friend and at the end he gave me a choice of giving up my steem power for steem to a particular account(not to mention). i was really confused weighing the value of my SP and how much steem i could make.
but this message reassures me to think far other than think wide.
SP i love

I completely agree with you, my friend and the fact that the Steempower is for us an engine to freedom, makes our ecosystem even better and more promising. Of course, this requires a lot of patience and work, but you did it and thereby show everyone an example of how to conduct business and it's great. Well done! Thanks Mark

Very interesting point, I hadn't looked at the Steem Power like that before, thank you for sharing!

You are welcome!

Man it certainly takes balls to stick to blogging when the prices are dropping like crazy. This bear run has really been a litmus test for a lot of us and has proven to me those who are here for the long term or not.

As for me, I find it much easier to concentrate on earning as much steem as possible, no matter its market price. The fact is that sooner or later the prices will find new all time highs and then the whole cycle would repeat, albeit with new but higher-lows. Being here for SP and not dollars just helps me keep my sanity intact in dropping markets.

I have been a full time steemian for last three months and the pressure of looking at low prices is something that I'd just rather avoid and simply concentrate on earning more SP for the future.

Your focus is correct, it's about the Steem tokens and not the dollar value. I kept blogging when STEEM went below 10 cents. Many left and sold their STEEM way too early out of fear.

What can I possible forget that I can't acquire in London?

Phone 100% is a must. If I travel, I usually take cash since I don’t like using my credit cards in unknown places. It might be a bit drastic, but that’s me.

I’m not sure if I ever powerdown. I know I can’t compare your SP with mine, but you would be surprised how many people with very low SP power down.

I also would add that today’s low rewards from low Steem price could increase once the Steem price rises again. It could take years, but at the end it doesn’t matter where the price is in between. As long as you keep doing what you do, you get nicely rewarded and your today’s rewards eventually increase.

I think many underestimate the power of Steempower. But it's not up to me to decide what a person should or should not do with it.
