IT IS WELL

Mr Stafford with his wife and 4 daughters in Chicago. He was a very successful businessman, wealthy and a devout Christian. Tragedy, however struck when his wife and 4 daughters set sail to visit relatives in Europe. Unfortunately, their ship collided with another steamship in Mid-Atlantic and sank immediately. Mrs Stafford was however rescued by a speed boat. When she arrived Britain with the rest of the survivors, she sent a message to her husband, "Saved Alone". Mr Stafford left immediately for Britain to comfort his wife and while in London some group of friends went to console them. Surprisingly, they found them in good spirit, strong in faith and able to say through their
tears that, "it is well; the will of God be done." In memory of his daughters, Mr Stafford composed the song, "it is well, with my soul." This song has been a source of consolation to millions across the globe. Some think that troubles are our personal responsibility, caused by sin. No, not necessarily, God can use problems as part of His plan for us. He used the Spaffords to reassure us that whatever may betide us, He can strengthen and encourage us to bear the hardships. Every trial you endure will help you comfort other people suffering similar hardships.
