Nek Baren shows "reungkan" and "bleuet" made using coconut leaves.

Old age is not a barrier for Bahrensyah familiarly called Nek Baren to continue with creativity. This grandmother fills her spare time to create "Bleuet" and "Reungkan" on her home page.

Nek Baren is a poor resident of Uteun Bayi Village, Lhokseumawe, Aceh. He is 76 years old. During this, this dark-skinned grandmother lived in a hovel with a very poor condition. The roof of the hut is leaking, the walls are hollow, and flooding during the rainy season because the floor is lower than the road surface.

That is why, the "Al-Birru" Community, the caring community for the poor in Uteun Bayi Village, then raises funds to build a simple house for Nek Baren. The "Al-Birru" community then handed over the simple house keys to Nek Baren, March 24, 2018. Now Nek Baren is comfortable living in a new home.

Nek Baren's house is built inside a coconut farm belonging to other residents. The owner of the garden also gave the coconut leaves to Nek Baren for weaving "bleuet" and "reungkan". It takes skill and creativity to weave the coconut leaves into "bleuet" and "reungkan". Nek Baren then sells "bleuet" and "reungkan" to others.

In Aceh, "bleuet" is commonly used for the place drying of belimbing wuluh into "asam sunti" as a food spice. In ancient times, Aceh people also used "bleuet" for bathroom walls.

While "reungkan" is used for pedestal periuk (pot) fish and vegetable. "Reungkan" can also be used to put chili, onion, and other kitchen ingredients.

Currently, "bleuet" and "reungkan" are scarce in Aceh. Only a few people still want to make "bleuet" and "reungkan", one of them is Nek Baren.

This is the "bleuet" and "reungkan" made by Nek Baren
