Steilacoom Beach On A Hot Summer's Day

This is a beautiful park with plenty of beach access. The view out over the Sound is amazing, especially on a sunny and clear day. If you look really good you can see the Tacoma Narrows Bridge in the background. You can also see Anderson Island. Several times we saw the Steilacoom-Anderson Ferry make it's way across the South Sound. 

Children Are Enjoying The Water On This Hot Summer's Day

Walking up and down the shoreline is a favorite past-time of shell collectors. This is an excellent beach for hunting shells. Just after the tide comes in, the shoreline is littered with all different kinds of treasures. 

Enjoying Low Tide At The Beach

Since it was just switching when we got there from High Tide to Low Tide, the children were roaming the area looking for different shells. One word of warning: the beaches often have many Jellyfish along the shore and they should not be handled. If you step on them or try to pick them up, they have a nasty sting.

Nice Walking Path At The Edge Of The Sandy Beach

If you like to just get out in nature and walk, you will enjoy this nice paved walking path that follows the shoreline through the city of Steilacoom. 

The Park Is Filled With Beautiful Evergreen Trees

This spectacular country town park has many peaceful corners to just relax and be quiet. There are benches scattered throughout and many picnic tables. The majestic Old Growth Trees bring you the perfect opportunity for finding peace and quiet

Nestled Under The Trees Is A Children's Play Area. 

This is a wonderful play area for the children, with a great variety of things to play on. Just past the play area are open areas where you can set up a good game of volleyball or other lawn games. There is also an entrance to the water most often used by beginning divers. This is a good beginners diving site and popular with the youth. 

On warmer days there are many people who enjoy a good swim in it's cool clear waters. The water here is never really warm, but during the hottest days, it feels so very good. 

If you live anywhere in the South Sound Area of Washington, this is a perfect family getaway. It is a short 30 minute drive from Tacoma, the largest city on the South Sound. If you tire of watching the ferry cross the Sound to Anderson Island, then why not hop aboard the next ferry and visit one of the most peaceful islands in the Sound. 

Whatever your taste in adventure might be, you are sure to find it at Steilacoom Beach.
