The hostage ransom phone call for my mom

in #life8 years ago

So two days ago I got a call from +65 6322 5468 which shows up on my  weak ass quasi caller id as coming from Singapore.  My first thought was  that this couldn't possibly be from Singapore.  I answered the phone to  a woman that could have passed as being the same tone of voice as my  mom crying, begging and pleading for me (by my first name) to help her  and that they have her in a van-*phone pulled away* A man with a foreign  accent which sounded vaguely mexican/hispanic but didn't  really... hard to explain, and ultimately not as important as him  saying in the background away from the phone for her to sit down and  shut up if she want's to get out of this.

Now this man starts speaking to me directly, "(My first name) we have  your mother (her first name) hidden in a van and if you hope to see her  alive again you will listen and do everything that I say.  You will not  contact the police about this, and you will not discuss this with anyone  else who may be around you or that you know.  Because if you do:  she  will die.  Now how much money do you have?"

I am now in full  blown panic mode because I know what is coming next, hell I knew where  this conversation was going after he said his first sentence.  I had  just seen my mother a few hours ago working out in the yard and saying  she was going to the across the street neighbor's house to bum some  cigarettes.  Did she get plucked on the way, and why me and mine?   Mom  knows I'm near broke and homeless, and was that really her?

So  I'm stalling for time while I'm walking outside.  I'm on the phone  playing deaf and dumb saying shit like, "Excuse me?  Huh? Who am I  speaking with?  Who was that woman on the phone earlier?  It's hard to  understand you with your accent.  What?"

So upon hearing a  drill press activate in the garage I hurry out there to see my mom with  safety glasses on drilling holes in wood.  So that's when I start  ripping this guy a new asshole telling him how stupid he was if he  thought he had my mother; because she was standing in front of me.  I  threatened to call the cops and let the FBI know.  Called him a bunch of  names before ending the call.  So I reported the number and the scam on  traditional scam watch sites and searched for the number on a few and  didn't get a hit.   I didn't bother reporting it to state or federal police because they monitor all international calls

If you should find yourself in a similar  situation always remember this:  Show me proof of life:  A picture with  today's newspaper and the date clearly visible in that same picture.
