A pencil for smiling

What many are supposed to know but few do

Before advancing in this post, I must recognize the merits of my admired Elsa Punset, who has enchanted me with her motto "It's not magic, it's emotional intelligence"

Among so many things that I have learned from this famous writer and passionate about generating a change in our society, I have been left with the knowledge of how to help us feel better through training our brain. As she mentioned in one of her programs, "wanting to feel better is a first step to feeling good".

Which leads me then to share the pencil technique to smile. It is based on a very simple exercise to hold a pencil in our mouth, pretending to smile for 15 seconds to send signals to our brain and generate the necessary chemistry to improve our mood.

From here it gets good ...

Simple, but here is where my story begins, I'll be brief, I promise. As soon as I discovered that this technique would make me feel good, I carried it out. Not conforming with 15 seconds, but I have tried it for half an hour. Especially in those days when you have to tighten your teeth to avoid insulting the first person who crosses you.

At home, they already know my follies, however they do not stop asking so as not to lose the habit. But, when my husband sees me with the pencil in my mouth, he knows that it is better not to approach until I removes it. We all have good and bad days. However, women have a roller coaster mood, and things get tense when we are in our pre or post menstrual days.

And how about the result?

I can assure you that if it works! either because you release frustration by pressing the pencil hard with your teeth or by the hormonal magic that occurs. Which makes me think how good it would have been to know this before. Because sometimes it's not just about cheating the brain to feel better, but also that it's quite favorable to hide our miseries behind a smile.

Walking with a sad face frightens people. It comes to my memory those days of playing in front of the mirror with my index fingers next to the corner of my lips to raise them and create a smile. Many times I considered making it permanent with a surgery and look like the Joker's girlfriend just like a journalist with full lips on a famous newscast. I would have done it, in order to fit well into a society that does not support long faces.

However, using a pencil to smile has made me feel very good. It is a practice that I will not leave, because I want to become addicted to natural endorphins. Anything to move towards the goal of feeling splendid as much as possible. Life goes on ... and I continue on my way to find reasons to smile.
You already knew this technique? or do you dare to try it?

I appreciate your time and dedication to this reading. Support me with your vote, comment and share to spread the good vibes.
