What should I bring to the field?

in #life7 years ago

What should I bring to the field? Is the most common question among others after being announced by the teacher / coordinator of the activity for pedagogical purposes, so I will try to explain in general terms the minimum equipment necessary to take to the field work.

Generally, the materials and equipment that you must bring to the field work go hand in hand with the subject and objectives set out in the field activity, in addition the teacher / coordinator of the activity should mention the list of materials and equipment to use the same Day that the field work is announced. However, in outdoor activities of this type, some basic elements coincide and others do not, this also depends on the time duration of the activity and the place.
Here is a basic list of materials and equipment to be used in a field work:

  1. Clothing:
  • FIELD work clothes: jeans, shirts / long sleeves (ready to dirty).
  • Clothes of change (so many changes of clothes according to the number of days) and clothes to sleep.
  • Sweater or jacket (depends on the climatic conditions of the area).
  • Hat, hat, etc.
  • Rubber boots high cane (recommended) or closed shoes arranged to fill with mud.
  • Shoes to rest.
  • Personal hygiene kit (soap, shampoo, cream and toothbrush, comb, mirror, etc.).

Recommendation: It is better to wear disused clothes, so you work more comfortably and you do not have to worry about breaking clothes. In addition, wearing the jean is necessary so that injuries to the legs caused by vegetation, insect bites and even snake bites are reduced.

  1. Basic camping equipment:
  • First aid kit (essential).
  • Carp or Chinchorro.
  • Sleeping bag or sheets.
  • Cook if available and additional fuel reserve.
  • Set of dish, glass and cutlery.
  • Knife.
  • Mecatillo or rope to improvise clothes lines, etc.
  • Flashlight with bulbs and spare batons.

Recommendation: The first aid kit is indispensable, so you should not miss the field work so do not hesitate to take one, or simply put one together with your classmates to take it to the activity.

  1. Basic field equipment:
  • Field note book (with pencil, pencil sharpener and eraser).
  • Safety lenses (recommended).
  • Latex gloves (it is not known if you are going to manipulate organisms that release toxins).
  • Gloves of carnage or leather (in case of collection of rodents and bats).

Recommendation: If you are the organizer of the fieldwork, remember to check the list of materials and equipment to be used during the activity and communicate it to students on the same day that you refer to the activity. Now, if you are a student, remember to ask the coordinator for the list of materials and equipment to use during the fieldwork, form teams with your colleagues and it is easier to gather the materials.

It is important to emphasize that this list is basic and simple, it is not necessary to have teams of a specific brand recognized to be able to attend the field activity, after all the desire to learn and work are more important, remember that the Tourism and fieldwork can go hand in hand as long as it is efficiently and responsibly.
