Thanks for asking, Okky. My favorite mystery novel is The Daughter of Time by Josephine Tey. My favorite science-fiction novel is Anathem by Neal Stephenson. Both of these novels are slow to get going. You'll need patience and faith in my judgment — and that of many others who rate these books at the top of their fields — to persist in reading them and reap the rewards. And rewards there are indeed. Few reading pleasures are as intense as these.

Bill Keller says of The Daughter of Time, "Perhaps the oddest and best mystery ever written. Police Inspector Grant, flat on his back in hospital, solves the historical mystery of Richard III and the Little Princes in the Tower."

As for Anathem, here is a YouTube trailer, made as if it were a movie instead of a long book:

wow, thank you for the recommendations, I think I will check later if they have "The daughter of Time" in here. Still have some books from friends to read first, though. thank you :-)
