Winter Solstice and the Full Moon

in #life6 years ago (edited)

In four days the full culmination of this year’s Mind is offered in sacrifice on the alter of sleep to the murky depths of the land of dreams.

It’s been slowly losing strength since the summer solstice. Entering an in-between world on the autumnal equinox, it’s floated through unreal scenes and blurred visions of an underwater realm that gently suffocates its flailing efforts, finally bringing it to calm.
In dark comforting silence, we allow ourselves to dissolve into velvety nothingness. Completely forgetting who we are and what we’ve done till our temporal psychic structure collapses and ceases to exist entirely.
But somehow every year, on the fourth night beyond that shortest of days, in the pile of dust we left behind a kernel of light still survives. Igniting itself with a dramatic flare it will feed on the darkness, its glowing growing stronger and brighter, once again and for the millionth time, it will propel itself on a journey back towards the crack of dawn.

But this year’s solstice, the day of longest nights is graced by the most brilliant light that shines in darkness; the full moon. I wonder if that kernel of light will be confused when it finds itself bathed in mystical milky luminescence? Perhaps it will feed on the secrets revealed of a realm always cloaked in blackness, that it usually rushes past without pause. Maybe it could be distracted from its urgent quest to join the light of day and allow itself to float gently through the watery world of half-light, absorbing the surrounding mystery of morning’s early hours lit by the night’s brightest beacon.

I can only begin to imagine what would be born on day one of spring, when the seed of awareness, nurtured by such visions might make its way once again into the land of the living…
