Spoken Word: I Just Want To Get Away

 I just want to get away. But what am I getting away from? Kurt Cobain, Amy Winehouse, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, all wanted to get away. Why would they want to? They had everything. But what does everything really give you? It gives you money, power, fame, VIP status, control over others. But what everything really gives you is a distortion of yourself. You have now become what others want you to be. Kurt, Amy, and Phillip wanted to get away, drugs was their escape. They hated so much of what everything gave them, they would rather be semi-unconscious than deal with their own reality. A reality that most envy. 

We need a break, we need a vacation, we need a new start, but from what? Maybe it’s this draining system that sucks the life out of us. The media and advertising industry constantly tell you: you need more, your not good enough, be like him, look like her, drive this car, take these pills…can we please just take a step back and look at the absurdity of it all. My God…I just want to get away.
