What box did they put you in?

"You won't make money doing that."

"That's not a real job!"

"That's not the real world. You're living in a dream world, come back down to reality."

"Why would you want to leave the box? Just get in the freakin' box that's already packed like everyone else."

Really?!  What's the reason society deems certain professions as fake or invalid? Who decides what constitutes as a real job when the reality is you can make money doing virtually anything?

Throughout our years on this planet, most of us are told what will make us happy and are encouraged to do only those things. Society puts us on a general track for how we should live our lives and straying from the path is often frowned upon. We waste so many hours on this planet living a lie... ehem, I meant life that other people prescribe to us and they say it'll make us happy. For example, from age 4 to 17, we're put through a public or private Pre-K- 12th grade school system. After that, we go to college and pick a major that will give us a decent salary and make our parents proud. Once we graduate, we get a job and until we reach the age of retirement, we work the same career we chose at 18 (whether we like it or not). It's as if retirement is the only time we are able to be in control of our lives.

Most of us are so brainwashed that when we decide to do what we want in life, we have to recondition ourselves. Why are we settling to live in the box that the world has built for us? As a human being, I'm trying to figure out the reasoning behind telling masses of people that their lives have to be this way or that way. The aftermath of it all is that we wake up everyday trying to pursue stuff that doesn't even make us happy.

We spend our time chasing unfulfilling, purposeless, mundane jobs or ideas or things because that's what we're told will make us okay in this world. But the reality is, no other human being holds the road map to another person's life. That only belongs to God and it's God who gives you the dream, He gives you the idea, the passion, the fire to produce music, or act, or create art or whatever it is you love to do. The reason why He gave us these things that we enjoy so much and are happy to do, despite what society says, is because that's His way of telling us that's what we should do to add value to the world. From person-to-person our roles on this earth should look dramatically different. If everyone's running around doing the same thing, what the heck? Where's the creativity, individuality and boldness to take risks and buck the system? It's time to say, "I know what makes me happy, brings me joy and I know what I'm here to do." I know what God put me on this earth to do. A quote from Alan Watts reads, "What would you like to do if money was no object? How would you ENJOY spending your life?"

If you're unhappy with where you are in life, you have the power to change it. If you're in a bad place physically, emotionally, spiritually, or mentally, you can change it. It comes down to making the decision for yourself to do what you've been put here to do. If a job is unfulfilling to you, no matter how much money or status it brings, it might be time to let it go. You can apply this to any area of your life. If you know that you'd love to do something else or live somewhere else, it's always time to just do it. It doesn't matter what others are saying. Remember, no one else has the road map to your life. Make the choice to create a plan to change things and go for it. Humans don't belong in boxes. Period. Get out of the box.

Don't talk. Do.
