I cooked up some Monday motivation for you. Please read
The true life story of four boys who finished first place over the celebrated Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE) ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) Competition,Underwater Dreams,a documentary in 2014 and acted as a movie(spare parts produced in 2015 based on an article written by Joshua Davis in the Wired magazine,La Vida robot.
The team was made up of Cristian the smart one, Oscar the team leader, Lorenzo the mechanic boy, Luis the cable holder, all illegal immigrants who had to hide to avoid being deported. They all had their stories but as fate would have it, they went to a position above MIT(A school of Hims:Cristian the smart one)
Carl Hayden High school was named after the first senator to serve seven terms as a senator thereby holding the record for longest serving member of the congress. The school that once had well dressed white students had lost it prestige and had 85% of Mexican Americans (Hispanics),most of them hiding from deportation.
The school’s motto:
The pride’s inside
well wasn’t something reputable either. The exterior had graffitis and gangs and the interior made up of over 80%of the students living below the GDP and some illegal immigrants as students.
The synopsis of the movie showed that the boys had to raise money for the building of their robot which they eventually did. They raised money for a low budget underwater robot because their advisor Engr. Freddi Cameron never wanted to spend on the project because he thought they wouldn’t win.
Their robot,Stinky, was made from spare parts from leftover machines and a low budget plan. It was named Stinky "because of the smell it had from all the gluing together"
Stinky was had power problem on the day it was first tested in water(baptism) and the day before the competition in which they used an absorbent material used by women during to soak water from entering the brain of the robot(intelligence module) as easier understood by Luis.
On the day of the competition, 70% was awarded for the practical operation of the robot and 30% to technical know-how of the robot.
The Arizona representative who had joined the college level of the competition so as feel less depressed when they lost. However, they came fourth used the 30% part to level up thereby taking a position above the Massachusetts Institute of Technology(MIT):
The school of hims,I meant Cristian the genius
It was a big surprise to hear they had won, after their special award before the award ceremony, they lost hope on winning.
Living as illegals
The tether man, Luis never had the knack for school but however took cooking classes.
Cristian later went to the university but lost his scholarship because of his legal status. However that didn’t stop him from becoming a mechanical engineer. After updating his status,he did petty jobs to save up for fulfilling his passion of designing appliances since he couldn’t get a job.
Lorenzo also attended cooking classes and even opened his catering company.
Lastly. Oscar the team leader made waves as he accomplished his dream of becoming a soldier in the U. S. Army. He got married, two kids
Docudramas are the best.. You should see the movie and get inspired
