That's Life ... Why I've Missed Steemit-ing

in #life7 years ago

Our office is in the basement of our home. With two little girls needing food, naps, diaper changes, and most of my attention, getting to the basement every day can be HARD. Add in multiple Usborne Books & More parties coming up, and my personal business getting a sudden influx of orders, and it becomes impossible because of all the work I'm doing. But! We just scored 3 fabulous tables from Cupery & Sons, (as well as 12 awesome chairs), so I've moved my "office" upstairs!

I can spread out my laptop, calendar, paperwork, books, crocheting supplies, and have a functional workspace that I can whisk away to my studio (unfinished) when company is due.

So what I have been working on? As I said, I have two UBAM parties coming up; my very first in-home party and a Facebook party. I'm super excited for the home party, as I've been hoping to book one for a while now, and I get to show off so many books!

As far as my personal business, I've been cranking out special orders like crazy lately. Donald & Daisy Duck keychains, an Ariel lovey, and now a Princess Poppy lovey and caterpillar (with more orders pending). That may not sound like much, but let's break it down:
I don't go by patterns, so I have to study photos and write up my own.
Then I have to purchase the correct yarn types and colors.
I have to precisely make every single little stitch.
Sew on any additional pieces.
Take pro photos.

Then cross my fingers and hope my customer loves it.

That's a lot of work being put into one single item, and when I have half a dozen backed up along with my own personal projects, it can get overwhelming. I have an epic Doctor Who scarf in the works, that will end up being 18 FEET long, according to the number of rows.

I have a sea turtle afghan starting soon as well, with SIX different people clamoring to order one. I am so blessed with a booming business! But you can see why it leaves so little time for blog posts; I tend to do those in bursts; writing up 3-7 at a time, and saving them in Google Docs or Evernote.

I need to get back to work and brunch, but I wanted to post an update. Hope all my fellow Steemians are having a great day!
