Crucial Conversations in our daily Living

I had a Crucial Conversation today and thought maybe I could share a view pointers on the subject:

I take it that all are in an agreement that Crucial Conversations are everywhere around us and it exists every day even if you do not know the term.

It might be related to basically everything and with everyone around us.

How does a Crucial Conversation start, and what is a Crucial Conversation?

Well firstly a Crucial Conversation starts when you have to get out of your comfort zone and talk to someone about something very important which you and the other person do not talk about every day, this might be for example Key Performance Indications (KPI’s) or Individual Performance Objectives (IPO’s), or asking your wife if you can go and play golf again with your best friend after the previous Saturday you arrived a bit too happy at home after the 19th hole,  these Crucial Conversations expects both parties to participate and after the conversation/discussion is completed a common ground of understanding on the way forward must be established.

So, whether it is a conversation with a work partner or with your best friend or with your wife it is around us every day.

How to prepare and handle yourself for and during a Crucial Conversation

1. Do not get personal.

2. Keep the objective in mind that needs to be achieved.

3. Have all relevant documents or evidence available in order to strengthen your/company’s objective.

4. Be open minded.

5. Do not get Mad or have burst outs at the other person if you get uncomfortable or disagree.

6. Stay professional

7. Once you feel cornered and you have to admit to the other party that they are right, remember to breath and understand the other person.

8. Respect the other person when he/she is talking.

9. Listen to the other person do not just hear them.

It is extremely important that after a Crucial Conversation that a mutual agreement has been established and both parties are satisfied with the outcome/objective. Both parties has to accept their short comings and if they did something wrong, also understand that both parties realize that every action has consequences and if repeated will have a worst outcome.

WOW thank you bdmomuae

Yup, this is pretty good advice you've given.
Keep Steeming @joe007 ;-)

thank you, let's see how many remember this the next time

I totally agree there is no other way, it can only lead to problems.

Very happy to know I am not the only one feeling this way, thank you

It's true @joe007 we found ourselves bottledup in our comfort corner zones and resist to move or shift just a needle hole. And all this resist change in our lives. Look at our African leaders, even a newly born baby can see their mistakes and we people continue to put them back to their positions during elections. Its because of the zones we are at. We are so blind that we can not even think of making changes. It maybe a good change that will kill poverty. I wish everybody need to do introspection and move from their comfort spaces.
