Microgreens?? -What they are and why we grow em'

in #life7 years ago (edited)

My partner and I have recently started a hydroponic farm growing and selling Micro greens out of our home in Los Angeles. Its been a pretty crazy thing to watch these little greens grow in our living room and complete their germination in just TEN DAYS (which then allows us to harvest and sell them to our clients every week) !! . We started growing them as a way to supplement our income while we get settled in the city and found that these little greens are actually something that everyone should have as a staple veggie in their home. Turns out, Micro greens, which are a little older then a sprout, Carry anywhere from 10-40 times higher nutritional value than its mature counter-part (one ounce of broccoli micro greens is about equal in nutritional value to 1 whole head of broccoli). They have a heightened taste of the what the mature veggie or herb would be as well... things like kohlrabi, cabbage, basil, spicy radish...theyre all super tasty!! We use them on sandwiches, pasta, sushi, salsas etc. The list could go on and on...seriously guys, next time your at the farmers market, pick some up and try em for yourself! and if you reside in the L.A Area.. stop by Toluca Lake farmers market and grab some greens from us!! - Young Grasshopper Farm

First of all, love the shirt.....bees are my signature....and the micro green farming....so interesting. There are a lot of homesteaders on steemit who would be interested in this market.

@papa-pepper lives off the grid as do many others like @countryinspired, @canadian-coconut to name a few. Hope you are enjoying your time on here.

Thanks @countrygirl! I searched everywhere for that shirt, I love it too! ill be sure to check out all of the tags you sent. The microgreens have been so cool to work with... Have you ever tried them?

No, I've never tried them. I've heard a lot about them but no. They sound really tasty. I'd probably like them bc I like big taste. Maybe Whole Foods carry them, or Goodness Me. I'll check it out.
