Save some problems in your life. If you want success, don't neglect it.

in #life7 years ago (edited)

Throughout my 20 year career in the people business. I have been called upon in the most dire of circumstances of people's lives. A wayward child. A marriage teetering on destruction. A incurable sickness. An unexpected financial calamity. An addiction that is destroying the family.

The theme that continually arises in this situations is "We didn't see this coming" and "How quickly can we escape this pain?".

Here's the hard truth that I can rarely speak in those situations: Many of the problems of life can be avoided if you would have not continually neglected this area of your life until now.

Neglect never produces success.

Neglect your kids personal and spiritual development? You can't reright the ship in their Senior year in high school.

Neglect your spouse for 5-8 worrying about job, kids and yourself? You can't fix your marriage in one conversation or a weekend away.

Neglect of your physical health for 30 years? You can't fix your health problems with one week of clean eating and going to the gym.

Neglect of a budget? You can't dig yourself out of credit card debt and crazy spending in one day.

Addiction destroying your life? You can't put together all the pieces in one afternoon.

Jesus will forgive you in an instant, but the rebuilding of the broken pieces of neglect often take much longer than the time it took for them to be destroyed.

Don't be neglectful of the important things of your life and you'll be less likely to experience the pain of regret.

Here's a pic with my wife of 19 years.

It's uncomfortable to face pains, fears, and stressors head on - but we must as it's part of how we grow and transform. Denial only leads to more pain in my experience!
