What Makes a Person Cry?
Many people said that crying is the best answer to lessen the pain we feel inside. Human produce tears for a variety of reasons. Crying is a natural emotional response to certain feelings, usually sadness and hurt. But then people cry under other circumstances and occasions. People cry in response to something of beauty. They are letting go of their guard, their defenses, tapping into a place deep inside themselves. Crying does serve an emotional purpose. When you cry, it’s a signal you need to address something among other things, it may mean you are frustrated, overwhelmed or even just trying to get someone's attention.
In some research, the main reason why a person cries is because they are hurt physically or emotionally. When people cry, especially women, they may be viewed as “emotional” as though this is a negative characteristic. On the other hand, most therapists will point out that crying is likely to be a great way to release an emotional response and restore the mind to a quieter place. The man who bottles his emotions may ultimately be more negatively emotional than the woman who lets her emotions out in the release of crying. When we are sad, we cry because of missing someone who is very important to us. We also cry because of the pain we feel because of losing someone we love. Sometimes we cry because of laughing too much, watching movies, reading stories and watching television that has a theme about love, family, friends and passion and love for God. When a relationship is over we cry because all the happy memories we had together with our special someone is gone already. The love is gone but the pain still remains in our hearts. Some people cry because of anger for the person who hurts them. Sometimes the loneliness of being alone makes us cry. A woman easily cry because it is their way to express feelings while, a man don’t cry easily because they believe that true man never cries. But it is bad if a person don’t cry because they didn’t express the pain they feel inside. Others cry because of disappointment because they didn’t get what they want. Others cry because of jealous, envy, discontentment, embarrassment, fear, guilt, homesickness, regret, sorrow and pity. Sometimes when we ask a person why they are crying they only tell us nothing happens because they didn’t want to tell others the pain they feel inside. They didn’t want others to know why. The only thing we can do for them is to give them comfort so they won’t feel they are alone.
They said that “Laughter is the best medicine”, but for me, sometimes “Crying is the best medicine”, because crying is a way to lessen the pain and to release the loneliness we feel inside. There are many reasons that make a person cry. Like a baby, the only thing they can do is to cry to express what they can’t say. In their simple cry, we can know that they need something. Crying is an expression of feeling. Sometimes the only thing we can do is to cry because of many problems we had. Always remember that, “The path of sorrow, and that path alone, leads to the land where sorrow is unknown”. A quotation by William Cowper telling us that it is not bad to cry sometimes because it is a way to feel free again from hurt and pain and to the loneliness we kept for a long time in our hearts.
