Getting to know the best of Venezuela: Calderas

in #life7 years ago
Hello steemians! Today I want to share my experience in a magic place called “Calderas”. It is a very very small town located in Barinas State, in the Andean foothills. As many of you know, Venezuela is among the 20 most dangerous countries in the world, but, incredibly, there is no insecurity in Calderas.

This is the location of Calderas:

We stayed in an inn called "Mucoposada Valle Encantado", a simple but charming house surrounded by mountains, run by a family. The car couldn´t get to the inn, so Isidoro, the guide of the area and brother of the owner of the inn, waited for us in the middle of the way with a mule to carry the luggage. The girls did not hesitate to use the mules as a means of transport. They were delighted ! Once we got to the inn, Felix, the owner, and his old mother, welcomed us with some tea from the area. The family was adorable. They were humble and kind. Behind the Inn there is a beautiful mountain called “La peña del Gobernador” (the Governor) with very steep walls, considered a symbol of Calderas.

Calderas is a coffee village surrounded by mountains and cloud forests. It has around five thousand people. Some of the houses are colorful, with huge windows and tile roofs. The people of the village get together in Plaza Bolivar (Bolivar Square) in front of the church. You can see the mules moored to the trees everywhere, and the coffee drying in the courtyards.

Here a picture of Calderas:

Around the town, there are a lot of falls and wells. The water well that capture my heart was “Pozo azul” (blue well) also known as “enchanted well” . I had never seen a “blue” like that one.
