Moving 7.6 ton Building with the people Inside
A little more this way....
On May 27, 1987, in Alba Iulia, a 7600-ton block with 80 in-house families was moved on wheels, it was a fabulous project that surpasses any imagination.
One of the city's major boulevards had to be widened so local authorities were hindered by a building. The A2 block, 100 meters long, was located on Bulevardul Transilvaniei, an important urban area on the Plateau of Romans.
The man who came up with the fabulous solution was Prof. Eng. Eugen Iordăchescu from the "Proiect" Institute of Bucharest. Throughout his career, the engineer saved 29 buildings from Nicholas Ceausescu's "madness".
The construction of a height of 17 meters and a width of 12 meters was divided into two independent buildings, each body was supported by a carrier frame, a concrete platform that was lifted by means of presses.
The platform was set on wheels and moved on the rails, being pushed by hydraulic devices ordered from an electric desk.
The "trip" lasted for five hours and forty minutes, under the stunned gaze of the people around.
Unbelievable, but only the families on the ground floor of the building were forced out of the dwellings, and the others looked away from the balconies.
Finally, the distance between the two "twin brothers" increased to 55.75 meters. Everything went perfectly and thus, enough space was created for the beautiful esplanade of Transilvania Boulevard.
