What should I do to think positive?
Being positive indicates mature state of “Mind”.
How can you be positive all the time when your mind is oscillating with material thoughts, emotional & sentimental aspects of life? All the time your mind tries to follow the footsteps of “Sense Perceptions”, which keeps your mind wavering. If your intelligence does not intervene & put the mind in right path, you are likely to be misguided by mind to dump you in the graveyard. It is for your intelligence to take a overall view of a situation & keep a “Balanced Mind”. The virtue of weighing “Pros” & “Cons” of situations & taking wise decisions at all times is the quality of “Balanced Mind”. It is easy to preach but difficult to follow. It requires regular practice & consistent efforts to keep the mind steadfast, meaningful & purposeful.
The philosophy of keeping “Balanced Mind” is to attach no value to good or bad, as they come up. This means being neutral to both good & bad. Is it possible to be neutral in normal life, if you are not a spiritualist? Definitely not. Irrespective of spiritualism, it is your mindset, attitude & understanding of “Nature” that matter most. In the given circumstances, all cannot become spiritualists.
The world applauds you & support your causes once, but when the situation changes, the same world puts you down mercilessly. If you had attached much value & meaning to their applause & appreciation, it made you feel enlightened whether there was real meaning in their applause. or not. When the same world had put you down for the same cause later, it would have hurt you much & questioned your worth. It is here that your “Balanced Mind” comes in the picture. If you had not attached much value to the applause & remained neutral, the subsequent situation of putting you down would not have affected. you. Your balanced mind suggests you to recognize your own short comings & improve upon yourself rather than accept or reject the verdict of the world. This approach is the gateway to stay “Positive” always.
The occurrence of good or bad is an accepted factor in life. It may come continuously or in breaks. It all depends on your orientation & exposure to external world. Each person has peculiar situations unique to oneself. How one reacts depends on one’s state of mind.
Calm, patient & perseverent mind keeps you steadfast & allows you to take sane & wise decisions due to saved energy. Reacting to anything & everything detracts your mind & waste your energy on worthless things.
“Positive state of mind” upholds positive traits in “Nature” & indicates your presence of mind, even at the most difficult & critical times. This is because you have trained your mind to accept good & bad with equanimity.
We can divide issues related to positive states of mind into three categories as stated below & all these categories convey the same message.
(1) Scientific Approach:- Anything & everything we comprehend in life has scientific explanation, if we try to analyze human nature.
An atom consists of “Proton”, “Electron”, & “Neutron”. Each one has its own significance & action. We are all made up of atoms. A proton has positive electric charge, electron negative electric charge & neutron has no electric charge. If the number of protons & electrons are equal, that atom is electrically neutral. This is analogous to good & bad effects balanced to create neutrality or a “Balanced Mind”. The overall proportion of electron & proton decides positive or negative charge. Neutron is silently sitting with proton in a nucleus & watching the orbiting electrons. Neutron is not affected by them in any way, except acting as a central figure to support electrons in their orbits & causing electromagnetic force. It is evident that these forces are evident & inherent due to law of nature.
(2) Philosophical approach:- The good & bad effects in life are part & parcel of life. As long as we are alive, we are bound to face ups & downs, as they come up.
Lord Krishna tells Arjuna in Mahabharath, “If you wish to face your present & future, turn your attention to Kurukshetra. Life & death, happiness & sorrow are natural, hence treat them as same. Attachment brings joy & sorrow. Do your duty without any expectations. If you act for your own good, the action will be impure & bad. The reward is not in your control. There is no life without work. Anything you do or don’t do, still forms your Karma”.
This philosophy works aptly well, if followed sincerely. Equanimity of good & bad, keeps balance of mind & helps you to maintain positive state of mind.
(3) Reality of life:- Irrespective of what religion or path you follow, it is evident that you are guided by natural forces, whether you like or dislike, accept or reject. All that matters, is recognizing the natural circumstances, actions & reactions in life. Hence you must keep in mind that you cannot be without any work. Even sleeping, resting, eating, yawning etc., will all be some work or the other. In the process of doing any work, both good & bad results are generated. The proportion of good & bad depends on several factors, known or unknown. These realities are subject to time, place & circumstances. If you accept the good & bad with magnanimity & treat them as destined & neutral, your peace is in your own hand. Acceptance of reality gives way to stay positive always.
To ensure positive approach & balance of mind, there are several steps to take, which can guide you & keep you happy & contented. Mindset is the first & foremost step. If your mindset is for achieving good without any expectation or reward, you have already won the battle partly. Rest of the things like trimming your life style, diet, timely sleep & exercise, sports, music, entertainment, etc., takes care of most of the other steps for smooth sailing. Acceptance of restricting factors like, natural forces, destiny & “Free Will” are remaining factors to complete the cycle. Hence staying positive always lies in your hand, if you follow your thinking & actions scrupulously.
CONCLUSIONS:-
Mind should be trained to accept good & bad with equanimity. Bringing neutral approach, enables you to stay positive always.
