COVID-19: Are we finally ready to learn our lesson?

in #life5 years ago

There is a lot of online debate surrounding the origin of COVID-19, but let's assume for a moment that this disease did in fact originate from animals in the Chinese 'wet markets' -- are we finally ready to learn our lesson?

The outbreak of COVID-19, Swine Flu, and Mad Cow Disease all have their origins in animal agriculture. We farm BILLIONS of animals, deprive them of their freedom, torture them and then finally execute them before shipping their dismembered body parts off to the supermarket.

Do human beings really think they can get away with torturing and slaughtering hundreds of BILLIONS of sentient creatures every year without reaping the consequences of their actions? We are accumulating for ourselves what could soon become an insurmountable karmic debt, and sooner or later God/Nature/The Universe is going to step in and wipe humanity off the face of the earth.

The lesson here is empathy; not just for our fellowman but the billions of sentient beings with whom we share this planet. They suffer too. They feel pain and value their lives just as we do.

Do not treat animals the way you wouldn't wish to be treated.

Recommended reading because it goes to the root of things, the question of the very existence of the "virus".

Thanks for this very good post! We have to become more human - this time will show whether we can learn or not...
