Coming of Age

To you, from tomorrow onwards:

To be honest, it’s pretty easy to get old without meaning. it’s pretty easy to get lost in the chaotic struggle of growing up. It’s pretty easy to throw away the years of maturity without making any sense of what life is teaching you. But with you, I don’t want that to happen. I want you to embrace every passing year as a transition— a sort of passage towards unlocking further horizons and grander challenges in your life. Well, I’ve known you from the very start. Your soul had always contained a bright, shining fire that kept on glowing over the years. The light from that fire may have sometimes dimmed, but never for once did it extinguish.

This fire is the passion that resides in you. It is so powerful and it can engulf you so much to the point that the fire sometimes bursts out and light up other people, too. And in a good way, the spark you pass on these other souls keep them warm and secured. So keep letting this fire shine, because it is your power. Do not ever let anyone or anything take away this fire in you, not even yourself. Keep it kindling, burning, flaming— on and on and on. For it will take your feet to further places, and perhaps someday, may even let you fly, anywhere you want— even to the moon.

I am reminding you. Keep doing what you do now, for I am proud of you. Let the words flow through you, run away from your anxieties and fears, and digest the right values from your experiences. Keep training your mind, body and soul towards their optimal condition, because it is your right to take care of them. And do not stop there. Keep chasing what you think is the right thing. Keep the balance of Arts and Sciences in your life—it is your calling to do so. And in between everything, in every passing moment in your life, keep God within you, for he is your fuel and nowhere could you go if you don’t have him.

Keep your principles close within you, and use them (if you should) to fight for what you know is right— but if you’re wrong, do admit it. Be wise. Do not stop learning what you can and what you must, from other more experienced people. Observe the places and situations you’re in every single time, and extract what you could from those experiences. Live in the present. This is the only sure way to be happy. And to do that, let go of the choices you did not take today, and embrace the ones you did. Remember, there is no more reason to look back in the past— it is over. To begin again, you have now.

Don’t let your head reach the clouds when your feet are still on the ground. Meaning— stay humble even though you may have already reached the summits of mountains that others haven’t climbed yet. And remember, more mountains are waiting for you. So keep finding those mountains, and climb them too.

Remember, you are on one of the greatest years of your Twenties, so I want you to live this year as much as possible—without regrets, but with precautions. Go out there. Challenge yourself with risks. And don’t be afraid to have fun and let go of your fears. But still, at the end of the day, after all the adventures, don’t lose sight of who you are and come back deeply attuned to your soul.

Love always,

Your Past Self
