Easter is the oldest and most important celebration of Christendom, which brought to mankind the hope of salvation and eternal life through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.Easter was celebrated for the first time around 1400 BC and his purpose of this Christian holiday is the living memory of the passion, death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ Although Easter is the most important celebration of Christianity and is the resurrection of the savior Jesus Christ, it was first a Jewish celebration symbolizing the liberation of the Jews from Egyptian slavery and the passage through the Red Sea on the promised land.
In Romania we have many traditions and customs, some of them are:
Easter eggs
The Lamb of Easter
Great Week Dings
Holy Week
Easter lunch
Lord's resurrection
Easter interdict`s
Let's talk a little about each!
Easter eggs Red eggs symbolize the blood spilled by Jesus for the salvation of mankind. The legend says that after the crucifixion of Jesus, Pilate was invited to a party. Then a soldier came into the room and cried out that Jesus had resurrected. Pilate, unconvinced, said he would only believe this when the egg he held in his hand would turn red. And the egg became red on the spot, and Pilate dropped the egg that crackled. Since then, it has been customary for Easter to collide eggs.
The Lamb of Easter Easter Lamb is another symbol of this Christian holiday and is the symbol of Jesus. Like the Savior, the lamb is a sacrifice to the Christian. Lamb is also the traditional Easter food and is prepared after several recipes, depending on the area.
Great Week Dings Denials are some of the deepest ministry of Christianity. The Great Weeks begin on the evening with the Flowers and then keep on Monday to Friday, when the priests are singing ritual prayers and reading fragments of the Old Testament. Tradition says that until the start of Deny, the house must be clean, and the trees and fences painted. Women who go to church for Denia's service must wear a black kerchief on their heads.
Holy Week In Great Week, silence and general sadness must be kept, divine services are taking place at the church, this week also there are ritual fires, fasting must be strictly adhered to, important household chores are forbidden.
Easter lunch After the Resurrection service at the church, all family members sit down at the table and taste first of the holy trail. Then an egg collapses and worships a glass of wine. Easter eggs, red eggs, sheepskin, salad with green onions and radishes, lamb and lamb roast, paste stuffed with cheese or sour cream should be missing from the Easter table. It is said that you have to remember the first person with whom you clashed Easter, so if you lose yourself and remember that person, you will find the way home.
Lord's resurrection In the night of Resurrection, from Saturday to Sunday, after the first singing of the cocks, everyone wakes up to go to the Job of Reviere. Before leaving for work, all family members have to wash their face with a red egg and silver money to be healthy and beautiful. Upon returning home, each one takes the candle belonging to Reviere. Then all family members sit at a first Easter meal, not before washing again with the silver egg and money.
Easter interdict`s. On the first day of Easter there are several prohibitions that must not be violated. This day is not allowed to leave the village, does not sweep the house, does not prepare food, and the Easter meal does not rise for three days. On Easter, after lunch, the whole community gathers in the courtyard of the church to knock eggs, to beat the hammock and to shoot the bells. If the first day of Easter is celebrated in the family, the next day the finns go to visit the nose with colaci, pasca and red eggs.
