What Is Reality But An Abstract Concept Of The Human Mind?

in #life7 years ago

Reality is usually treated as something that is concrete and without flaw. It's the very foundation of every human beings life and we believe our universe to run according to a strict plan, orchestrated by reality, that has a beginning and a definite. Even though I agree with the latter half of the statement (considering there just has to be a beginning and an end of the universe) what I don't agree with is the former half.

If anyone is familiar with the documentary The Thin Blue Line they can understand from where I'm coming from. Reality is a human construct after all and funnily enough differs for every single one of us. We have our own concepts of reality, our own versions of events; our own ideals, different faiths. All of the things that separate and differentiate us from one another simultaneously aid in changing our concepts about reality.. what it really is, why does it matter?

If we ask three people to give an account of the murder scene they all just witnessed, it can be said with certainty that all of their accounts would be different from one another. This is not because they were witnessing different events at the same time, rather, the way they experienced the same event was different. You experience new events with having a great deal of empiricism already involved. Since these experiences differ, so does the reality for each of these three people. However, if all three of them give the same account and the exact same details of how the murder went down, would you still be in a position to label their accounts as reality? I didn't think so.

Reality is a weird notion, something to make us cling to this drama we call life. We believe that since we exist, we are real and since we are real - we are meant to do great things. Reality can be described best in the Japanese term "GenJutsu" which stands for illusion. Its an illusion we tell ourselves everyday since its the only thing that keeps us from giving up. I don't know about you, but thinking there is no one reality and the fact that I could be a tiny spec in someone else's greater reality are thoughts that are definitely enough to keep me up at night.
